2007 summit 800

A friend of mine is lookin at getting into riding and has a found a good deal on a 07 summit 800 with a 144. He came to me about advice but I dont know anything about them.

Hopefully you guys can help us out.

What problems was this year having? I thought I remeber reading about the 800r not being a good motor, true or false?

Would you recomend this sled to anyone?

Please unbiased opions, thanks :beer;

they sorta had a knack for loosing cranks, as the case tolerances were bad or something, check warranty, if its under warranty i wouldnt be to worried, as the newer blocks, 08 replacement ones, seem to be fine. clutching was bit of a rough spot, need some work, with a little more info it would help to know, but it sounds like a really fun sled to start him with, the 144 is good to teach him how to ride, not to take advantage of tons of track.

07

If the machine has had all of the updates done to it should be fine . I picked mine up used with 250 miles on it . I had the updates done it has over 1200 miles troubles free so far

The clutches were made wrong and some of them will NEVER work right with out a properly made clutch. ie a new one. The ones that worked good rocked. What he said about some of the cranks. THe 800R motor is awesome.

Is there any to tell if the updates have been done? Maybe running the vin at a dealer?

What about the clutch, how do we know if it is set up right? Will it not hold RPMs? Is there anyway to find that out with out riding it?

running the vin at the dealer will tell you if the updates have been done, those updates should have also fixed the clutch issues temporarily, so it might be good to see when those updates were done also, but they will wear through rollers quite quick, so plan on replacing them about twice a year to keep the RPMS where they should be, this has been my experience so far, but its a great sled once set up.

i bought a 07 600 cause i had four (4) friends with 07 800s and all of them were TERRIBLE. seemed to get towed out everyday.

On that note, i have another friend with a XRS that has 1200 miles and its on its 3rd engine

:eek::eek:

sorry if this is a dumb question, but how do you get the clutch to stop wearing through the rollers so quick

I have heard of some guys running a different clutch, but I just deal with it, I guess its the design of it, and not much you can do, I am trying to learn how to do it myself so I don't have to pay all the time, its supposed to be pretty simple.

Problems with Primary clutch, secondary clutch, ecu connectors, rave solenoids, rave hoses, lack of thermostat, hard-as-rock-rubber track, failing cranks, knock sensors out of range.....

Proof of best-laid plans that can collide with reality.

I carry the Rollers with resin/Fiber bushings, the one's that you would see on the 2006 older summits or 2007~older.

$114/set of 3 (Canadian $)

Great machine, after I got my clutches done (thanks to DJ at MXZ REV Zone) and my new bottom end. Best sled I have ever owned to this point. Mine ran great with the setups I put on, and actually it ran great out of the box, then the dealer did the first ECU update and it started to go down from there until I started modding and going with aftermarket stuff.
