2007 Polaris 700 RMK Dragon Opinions

New to the site.....This sure seems like a very informed group. What is everyone's opinion on the 2007 Polaris 700-800 Dragons? Heard mostly good things. How much should they be selling for this off-season anyway.

the 700s seem more reliable than the 800s. I have heard nothing but praise for them.

the cost on a new one is dependant on the miles

there wasn't a 800 dragon in 07, not until 08. I bought a new dragon 700 in 07. Ran it two years, 2300 mi., not ONE problem. All my buddies were impressed w/ the sled's capabilities. My only complaint was the soft track and spinning out on icy spots in a climb and coming downhill backwards.

The 700's are bullet proof and run very strong. Will hang with most 8's all day. The 800's have their issues and polaris is still trying to come up eith a fix for them. If I were shopping for a used 07 or newer rmk right now, I'd be looking at the 7 rather than the 8. The 8's will be great once poo figures out how to keep pistons in them.

I'm running an '08 D7 and love it to death, but I have to agree that the track is way too soft for hardpack/icy conditions. I'm at about 2000 miles and have had zero issues as well.

I have a 07 700 and a 07 777. They are pull the rope and go. The 700 is an awesome machine. The power is great, its nimble and fun to ride. I have had some clutching issues(could be my fault), but the engine is bullet proof. Very happy with the 7s!

My 07 D7 has held up great...just pull and go! Of course there are always upgrades that can be done, but that is up to the user and what they are looking for.

Thanks for the info. One other question. What does everyone think the best mods (most sensible) for this sled (2007 700 Dragon) are?

I have a 2007 Dragon 700 with 3700+ trouble-free miles, my bud has a 2007 D-7 with 2400+ trouble-free miles.

Mods I did to mine were:

PC III from Jim @ Dynotech (he includes the CORRECT mapping for the 700's), 5-10% leaner on top, 5-7% RICHER in the mid-range, cleared up that mid-range gurgle. Best $365.00 I spent.

V-force reeds, waste of $$$, MAYBE ever so slightly more responsive on it's best day. That's $ 258.00 I'll never see again.

SLP air horn kit and (4) flo-rites, NO noticeable improvement.

Clutch offset alignment was off on both mine and my bud's sleds, slotted the pto engine bracket to "straighten" out the alignment.

Mine is an 08 and I'm really happy with it.Nearly 2000 Trouble Free miles:)

As far as mods to mine In order of best bang for the buck

Better Boards-best money spent yet
Carls Cycle Knee Vents
Carls Cycle Shock Tower Vents(buy the ones for the 900 and turn clutch side vent sideways)
Vortech Rack and Snobunjie trunk bag
2cool dash fresh air intake(doesn't have SLP prefilter material but still works well in most conditions)
SLP Can-saved a couple pounds and sounds good but not much of a performance upgrade

I ride an 08' 700 but my best bud rides an 07'. That thing does awesome! A single pipe does wonders for them.

Do what sleddin pete said plus....
The 07 D7 had a couple problems
One was hard steering. THis can be cured with the addition of Holz Easy Steer spindles. Makes a night and day difference.

Both the 07 and the 08 series sleds had a problem with the front end and bumper systems. They are all plastic. If you ride hard or want to lift with the front bumper you may want to look into replacing it with an aftermarket bumper. I put the Tri-City front bumper on mine, but when I did that it was the only choice, there are more choices now and they don't require the serious chopping that the TCP one does.

My wife runs the 07 D7 and I run the 08 700 RMK.
We have well over 2k on those sleds and they have been pull and go.
I couldn't force her off her 07 D7, she loves it.

Where do you ride?

The SLP Air horn is a cheap $43 and I personally saw a response difference in the high elevation where I ride. Lower gears are fairly cheap and easy to install. You will definitely see a difference in the steep and deep with lower gears and will only lose a few mph on the trail. Better boards are a little pricey, but well worth the money.

What are you running for a pipe and what silencer with it? I've got the HPS can and was thinking about running the SLP single with it.

I can see from a lot of posts that 'venting' seems like an important issue on this sled. Is it equally important to vent both the clutch and silencer sides of the sled? What are the main problems that this kind of extra venting is suppose to prevent?

Clutch heat and belt wear. They are not bad stock, but some venting and you will never worry about belts on them.

I got 1200 out of my original belt with no aftermarket venting. It is more important to vent the clutch side, that will keep your clutch components and your belt cooler.
