anyone have pics of where they mounted them? I don't have any free holes and do not want to drill the rail. I took off the front wheel near the bend but not sure if thats a great idea either... its a 2007 M1000 153

Why not drill the rail? One hole will not make it break. I have mine attached right behind the wheel on an 07 M1000 162, works great. If you have to ride icy roads to get to good riding, I would not take off your front wheels.
i guess its not going to be too bad drilling up near the front of the rail, near the back is where it would matter for hard landings probably

I will try and get you a picture of mine. I had to drill one hole.
As for strength. Look at the amount of material in the 07 rails then compare it to the Swiss cheese of the 08-09's. You have enough material to drill a couple hundred holes.

I'll get some tomorrow when it's light. I removed the idler wheels and used those holes, braced the spring on the rail.
Real close up. Used the upper hole from the idler wheel assembly
