2007 Attak - 144" or Nytro MTX 153" skid recommendations?

I've got a 2007 Attak GT, and love it, but think it'd be such a better sled in a 144" length. Here's what I ride, and why I just don't get a mountain sled....

I ride the UP, WI, and made one trip to Grand Lake, CO several years. Mostly as of late though, it's been the Keweenaw penninsula. Well, after this recent trip of low snow, my cousin wants to go out west. Well, instead of renting, or buying a new mountain sled, I was thinking of making my Attak into something I can ride on trails, boon dock, and take out west. I don't have to be the guy who makes it to the top of every mountain or make the highest mark. I just want something I can ride in the powder well, and still ride on trails back home.

I'm considering a complete skid so I have the lower approach angle. Could my skid handle rail extensions? What about my suspension geometry? I think I'd rather have a new skid. I'm considering a 1.5" or 1.75" track or maybe leave it a 1.25" studded track for UP / WI trail riding and boondocking, and then have a 2" track for trips out west.

Would the 153" off a Nytro MTX sled work? I may be able to get one of those and a track... Could I cut the 2.25" track down to a 1.75"?

Oh, I know I'll also have to extend my tunnel, and get mountain type skis.

I apprecaite your input greatly on this. What does everyone think? Anyone got pics? Please send pics to joel at winepress.us

thanks, joel

I made extensions on mine and put a 144" x 2" ttrack. I ride in the mountains and on trails. I love it. I don't go as high as the mountain sleds with longer tracks, but I sure have a lot of fun with it. The only thing we really had to do was go to 8 tooth drivers, remove the tunnel protectors and re clutch it. Other than that, I still soak up the huge moguls and never had a problem with the skid.

What about your approach angle? With just adding rail extensions, your geometry doesn't really change, and your approach angle is still steep.

Does anyone know if the nytro skid will use the same holes?

Thanks,
joel
