2007 attack overheating

I have 1600 miles on my apex attack, it is overheating and shuts off when sitting and idling. I know this is what its suppose to do but my question is why is it overheating. Coolant level is fine, radiator fan is working, temp outside is -5 F, shuts off after 3-5 minutes when its warm. I never noticed this to be a problem in past years but maybe I never let it idle very long. Is this normal? any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks, Squirle

Yamaha four stroks shut off when idling for a long time overheating or not.
If you are not moving no snow on heat exchanger = overheat.

overheating

if you are pretty sure it is over heating, check the concentration of your coolant. when it is too strong it can gel at cold temps, causing a lack of circulation and over heating.
