I have a 06' rmk 700 lined up for my brother, but dont know much about the polaris engines at the time. Any help would be great! Thanks

weight

wait, i wouldnt advise it. my friend who ive been riding with for 15 years bought one of these new. he never had it in real snow till last year. he sold it online the week after he got back. iv never pulled someone out that many times and the snow wasnt even great. he was so fed up with it and couldnt beleive it handled that bad till he let me ride it, im no great or good maby a fair but i had it sidehilling round a hill in a quite sharp drop to my right when it just pulled me down what a mess. over an hour for that one. i and he came around that same corner seperately on mine no problem. it did have what seemed to be great power though if you dont mind rattling your fillings out.

I have been riding one for 3 seasons now (700 w/ 144") and honestly I love mine - most people don't have an high opinion of the 2006 700/900's but you will find people on here that do. They are different machines to ride and will take some time to get used to especially in deep snow but they have awesome torque and bottom end grunt - they will take alittle investment to get them where they should be. It costs alittle more but I enjoyed the project - like I have said about these machines all along on here - if you can get them cheap and do the upgrades then great but for most people out there you are probably better off with an 07/08 if you can afford it.
They are really not that bad!!

Engine is solid and very reliable. Will take a few after market goodies to make it handle like a newer sled. As stated by NewfieBullet, you should be able to get one cheap and throw fun dollars at it as you like. Due to budget constraints of my own (read marriage), it has taken me 2 full seasons to get mine to handle like I want. Again, this is a very reliable sled, but there are lots of folks out there with very negative opinions on it.

What makes that 700 motor so much different then the pre-06 motors? The 700 was one of the best motors built in the late 90's early 00's??

the production years of 05/06 the "700" motor was actually a 755 big block.
Totally different motor. After those 2 years polaris dropped the 700/900 (they were based on the same block).

Me and my old man have been riding 06 700's for 3 years and are very happy with them. Both have been gas'n'go since the day we got them. There are a few factory updates though, your dealer should be able to help you out with those. As said before, the 755 has a lot of low end power. With a little bit of extras it'll put a simle on your face for sure.

A lot of people here on SW dont have many good things to say about these sleds. But the guys who actually own them love them. If you have any more ?'s PM me.

Yeah the big block engines in these machines are alittle different - there is some viberation (you get used to it) but alot of torque. I think the biggest misconception about the 05/06 machines are made by people who only rode them once or for a short period of time - I will be the first to admit that these machines may take alittle time for some people to adjust to and really appreciate what they have to offer - I ride with a wide variety of machines from M8s on but mostly new Summit XP's and my machine can go anywhere they can and maybe arguably farther. You will definitely get mixed reviews on here and I'm not sure if it will help you decide overall or not. If it's cheap grab it if not get something newer.

I think truth be told, I'd rather go for a 2006 600 RMK than the 700 RMK ...

If you got an absolutley screaming deal on a 700 RMK and wanted to put a lot of work into it and turn it into a 975 or something then it would be a pretty good sled ... To my knowledge, the only difference between the 700 (755) 2005/6 RMK and the 900 (866) RMK is the bore ... I think the stroke is the same.

I do know that going from my parents 2006 600 RMK's to my 900 RMK is an interesting experience ...

The 600's feel all light and fluffy compared to the 900, but the 900 rips your arms out of their sockets when you romp on it ....

I've never actually ridden a 2006 700 before, but I am assuming it feels like a really heavy 600 RMK .... hence why I don't think I'd buy one unless you were willing and going to do some work to it.

just like newfie bullet and myself have said, the people who dont like th 06 700 are people that do not own them or ride them all the time.they read something once or had a friend who told them.i have an 06 7 with 1000 miles and it is an extremely reliable sled that has never given me an ounce of trouble.the only MUST HAVE bolt on is the vent kit for the clutch side.thats not saying that there isnt a ton of other after market goodies to make this sled rip because there is just like every other sled on the market today.if you can afford an 07,08,or 09 then sure buy that but if not the 06 700 is an extremely reliable sled with tons of after market parts available to add on as time/money permits.

In my opinion, I wouldn't. I was out in Big Sky last year with a buddy that had an 06 700 Rmk. At that time I had a 06 600 rmk. They both had 144 tracks. the 600 was lighter, quicker, and higher. I could not stand the vibration I got from the running boards and the handle bars. He was not happy and is now looking for a new sled.

Rmk 700

the sled would be knocked down to a 144" and regeared for flatland. It will probably never see the mountains. Does that change any heating or reliabilty issues? Wouldn't be run wode open, like in the steep and deep.

I am not sure what issues a setup like this for flatland would be, however, it seems to me that regardless of altitude the 66/44-42ER helix is manditory on the 900's .... the 700's, I have no idea.

I just think that overall unless I was gonna make a serious mod project out of a 2006 700 RMK I would go for a 600 RMK first.

Like I said earlier I love my machine BUT if you're not using it in the deep & vertical then I would question getting it - not just because of this sled but I would question if you need a deep snow sled to begin with - and go with one of the crossover machines - Switchback for instances (seeing how this is a Polaris forum).
Not sure if this is the sled you would want for structly flatland riding - in saying that I do a bit of trail riding with mine and I have no problems JMO.

Tractor!!

Like Newfie said, I'd compare my 08' 700 like driving a porsche, real responsive, light, and quick on the throttle!! Where as my 06' 900 or your potential 700 is like driving a diesel pickup or a tractor!! The long stoke set up was meant to grunt through the steep and deep. All low end torque baby! If all your doing is riding trail you'll probably kick yourself in the butt for not driving the porsche!!
IMO!!
Personally; TRACTORS RULE!!!
