2006 RMK 700 144 HELP!!!

I'm looking for any input that anyone might have regarding my 2006 RMK 700. I have (2) main issues, first, during this past season after riding I would park the sled in a heated shop and it would eventually deposit oil from underneath the skip plate, not from the exhaust. Now, I was in the shop the other day after not being there for 6 weeks or so and there's quite a bit of oil...what might it be?

Secondly, this past season everytime that I would start the sled and take off, it would have quite a bog when I would give it full throttle, almost to the point where the sled would die. If I let it warm up for 5 or so minutes it would get better, but not 100%...what might that be and are the two things possibly related?

Thanks for any input!!!

take some time and go to the "polaris 900" section on the polaris forum....the 05-06 rmk 900 are the same sled with a bigger motor...so you will learn alot going through that information and get lots of tricks there as well to help your sled to run better...

1. the oil issue could be a few things...BUT.. is your oil level going down in the oil tank when there is oil on the ground???

--small cut in oil line
--loose fitting on oil tank
--check ALL oil lines from the oil tank, oil filter, to oil pump, and from oil pump to engine
--check the bleed screw on the front of the oil pump, it could be loose
--could be coming from the oil drain line from the exhaust valve solenoid...follow the hoses from the exhaust valves to the black solenoid next to the coils, if its used oil and coming from this drain hose, its fine...just try and change drain hose to longer hose and relocate to drain under sled, not under motor..
--is the oil fresh, or burnt (used)???

2. as for bog...could be a few things as well...depends on RPM range...but easy to check some things..
--read the thread for building your own TPS sensor, and adjust the TPS to factory settings..this is a HUGE improvement
--have you replaced your exhaust valve bellows (if any holes, replace with new)
--replace the TPS harness..they have been known to break in the insulation by the connector and cause bogging issues, reverse issues since the wire would make connections then not.

go over those few things and post back...lots of guys here to help you out...

PM me anytime as well, i have the sleds in my signature...so pretty good idea on them, ive done pretty m,uch all of it before ;)

go to the 900 section...youll get TONS of help, and TONS of info there...trust me...

Guido has some great input on these, good advice:beer;

One question on the 'start and go'... what kind of engine temps are you seeing on the display.... Does this happen everytime the sled is shut off, or after sitting and cooling off for a period of time?

Hopefully I am not reading this quite right, but either way it is important to note that these sleds should not even be moved till the coolant temp reads 126*F (The point at which the thermostat opens) to prevent cold seize and scoring.

If there is any bog or hesitation at full operating temperature, I agree with guido, checking the TPS setting is a good point to start... it can mess up a lot of things and seems to fall out of adjustment easily.

Thanks for your time Guido and 94!!! I will go to work on your recommendations and for sure report back. If I run into further issues I may take you up on your offer to PM you Guido!

Lastly, to answer your question 94, my sled will display this bog after everytime I stop throughout a ride although it won't be as bad as the first time I started it for the day. It usually runs itself out of it after about 5 - 10 minutes of riding, at which time, it runs very strong at low or high RPM's. When it does occur, it's at lower RPM's while attempting to take off.

Thanks again to both of you

ill bet the bog issue is TPS...

if the bogging gets worse...could be a stator issue..but lets not jump that far ahead and scare you...yet ;)

good luck...let us know...

READ my friend...lots of good info here, your at the right place for sure... (polaris 900 section)

Guido,

If my TPS seems to be fine, do you suppose my SLP can could be causing the bog that's occuring right after start up on my semi-cold engine? I thought that I read somewhere that after an aftermarket can gets burnt out a bit, it can lead to some of that?

Thanks again for your help:face-icon-small-hap

my guess is just what guido said, the oil is probably coming from where the oil pump meets the case, the bottom hole is a "wet seal" and very hard to get sealed up after it has been taken apart.

also what 94 had to say
WARM YOUR ENGINE UP, heat soaking(warm up to 110 or so, let it sit for a few minutes, then warm back up to 120ish) the engine is the most important thing you can do before riding it.

if this bog occurs after warmed up though while out on a ride check your tps with a home built tester, its very easy to do. Take a look at your throttle body boots and intake boots on the throttle bodies. they may be cracked an in need of replacement.

another wierd thing i had happen was loose spark plug caps caused by motor vibration, take the wire caps off the plugs, blow them out with compressed air, twist the caps off of thw wires, cut the wires back about 1/4 of an inch then twist the caps back onto the wires, also a little dielectric grease on top of the plugs will help.

let us know what you find

I just wanted to post my findings quick, as well as, thank everyone that replied for their valuable input!

The bog issue was found to be the TPS sensor, it was readjusted according to the computer at the dealership.

As for the oil leak, that ended up being a warped chaincase cover due to overexposure to heat, the covers are plastic. Evidently, there was a recall on this way back when and was reinforced with a metal bracket of sorts. In any case, both issues have been resolved!

Thanks again for your replies!

good deal...i forgot about the chaincase bracket...most guys had that updated when it first came out, but some didnt apparently..

good deal...glad you got it fixed up...

I was going to mention the chaincase recall. I have 2 of the 06 700's and also had the bogging problem fixed after replacing the tps. Sorry i was late to reach the thread or I might have saved you some time. The other problems that both my sleds had was the exaust sensor.
