2006 m7 clutch recommendations

I have an 06 m7 with a 153. powerclaw 2.25. bone stock engine. I am looking to clutch for 9,000 plus. what is the best clutch setup anyone has had for this elevation. Riding is almost all boondocking with a few occasional hill climbs. Im only a 160 lb rider but im looking for the best throttle response. Dont wanna be trenching all the time either. All info is appreciated. Thanks!
 
has an orange secondary spring. I also have a titanium one that is a brownish color. Im going to look up the numbers on it. Primary is yellow/white.
 
Stock weights for elevation and Rkt diamond drive clutch kit was really good when I had mine.

Did you buy the sled like that? or did you put the secondary spring in? I would go with the stock white ti spring. Thats most likely what your other spring is. It will have a white dot on it. The orange is a little heavy for a 700. If you want to stick with stock use a 36* helix and white spring. Keep it simple and go from there. A lot of guys have used the gold arctic spring in the primary, has a lower starting rate. Its all in what you are looking for.

The sled came with the orange secondary spring in it. Everything I have read says the orange is more for the 800. The other spring I have is more gold. I will look for the white dot this weekend.

Hmm out of curiousity where did you get the sled from?
 
As said, ditch the orange spring. The stock compression clutch can be made to work good. I like the speedwerx black/orange secondary spring, stock 36* helix, stock yellow/white pri. Spring, and weights for your altitude. I run about 66gr. At 7-8000 ft so afew grams down from there would probably do the trick. Adjustable weights make fine tuning a bit nicer, I've had good luck with cutlers.
 
How was the RKT kit? I have looked at it but I wasnt fully able to understand what they were trying to prove. Simple to use?

Nothing will work good if your big bushing in the secondary is shot. Usually are junk at 500 miles. haha

There's a guy in MI that cuts the aluminum hub off and replaces it with a steel one and a better bushing. Formula X1 I think. All my buds on Ms have sent their clutches to him for the update and are very happy with the result.

You should get at least 2000 miles on a clutch before it needs a new bushing. If you get 500 miles then you are doing something wrong.

Not from what I've seen... Probably depends on what you call acceptable and how hard you are on stuff. lol
 
65g weights for 9000'+ (use the p/n on the cat setup chart)
yellow/white primary spring
stock 36 helix
stock white spring

The secondary spring on the stock M7 is kind of a rob Peter to pay Paul scenario. If you want better back shift you put in stiffer spring (cat orange), but it will cost you top end speed. I can usually adjust the preload on the stock white to get the backshift where I need it, but sometimes I wish I had more spring. Its all in your preference to how you want the sled to react.

Within spec from the service manual, can't remember the number off the top of my head though. 2000 miles on a turbo m8 and it was still in spec.
 
I've seen trail sleds make the 2000 mile mark on a secondary but not a mountain sled. Those factory bushings are pretty light duty. I keep mine blown out and clean and they still are getting sloppy by 1000 miles and can't keep a roller in them by 1500.

Maybe some of them just don't fit very good to start with! Cat has more than it's share of failures due to poor quality control.
