2005 Summit X 800 1600miles

Pistons/rings to fail
Maybe a crankshaft bearing
Carb boots to crack
Running boards to sag
Nun to fold first time you hit something
Y-pipe bolts will fall out

I'm sure I missed some stuff...

Nordlock washers fix the exhaust bolt problem, and the rest are obvious. I think the cranshaft bearings are related to the piston issues myself. I personally haven't seen one without the other. These sleds can be set up if you like to wrench......but I bought an 06' and my only issue have been the Y-pipe bolts, and the Nord-lock washers fixed that.
Hope this helps.

Piston failure is not an issue. the early production (X models) rings should be replaced.

These motors had no apparent problems with the crankshaft bearings.

Carb boots are an issue, just keep an eye on them,

Make sure the chain case gears are in the same plane, user a straight edge. shim if needed.

Take out the y pipe bolts and loctite, then run sled for a day, and re torque.

Make sure your recoil is not gummed up, clean it out and reassemble with a light coat of teflon lube.

I got 7000 km out of my first set of pistons, it is a good idea to replace them every 2nd season to prevent a catastrophic failure.

I have the same sled. It has been a great sled and I plan on riding it for a few more years.

Problems:

Just like other have said.

Rings flaking.
Exhaust bolts.

Those are the only problems I have had. Great sled. I just put on a new belt last trip out, 1500 miles on the last one and still going, just starting to get thin.

160-290 primary spring is a must as well as 19/45 gears.

Should I post about my 05 that's has blown up just to ruin the statistics?
You don't really believe that the 800 was Doo's best effort.. do you??

No, but that is a thread just on which doos have blown. you only hear the worst. I am sure that there are tens of thousands that haven't.

I wouldn't bet on that. Between DooTalk and here, it's probably a pretty good cross section.
I'm glad you like yours. I think the motor is a POS but I knew that going in and bought anyway because I wanted to try the chassis. Next time you're in Al's shop look around on the floor, you will probably see lot's of examples of how good the motors are.
