2005 M7 Hard clutch engagement ?

Every time I start my sled off from a dead stop the clutch seems to engage hard and I get track spin. I have had the primary apart figured it was sticking but eveything seems fine. I Talked to my local dealer and they told me thats the way it is. I dont believe this because I thought a mountain sled had low rpm engagement so your track dont tear through the snow when you start. If I start on my garage floor the track will even spin no matter how soft I am on the throttle. Any one have any ideas on what could cause this?

hard engagement

I am going to presume that your sled is close to stock, you need to check the clutch the clearance between the fixed and movable shive on your drive clutch, Cat had a lot of clearance which made for hard engagement and low performance at low RPM. you need .010 to .020 clearance using a NEW belt.
press the belt tight to one side of the shive and measure the clearance.
If its more than .020, you will have to shim the spider assembly.
I word of advise, cat used loctite, and if you dont know what you doing you can screw up the spider trying to take it off.

You may want to check the weights also and see if they are correct or an incorrect weight can cause the same problem by slaming in. make sure the weights move freely and not binding.

As for the track turning, your belt deflection should be just tight enough that
you may get a little squeel from the belt at idle. If this is incorrect it may want to creep while lifted of the ground.
the clutch doesnt need to slam in like you mentioned. hope this helps, just my .02 Rm

Gold primary spring - Orange or Green (your pref) secondary spring with shift assist. Nice and smooth at approx 3500 rpm with a great backshift.

Driven spring

I have a 05m6 How much will the orange spring help? And what will it help? I have it apart now to install the shift assist, just wondering if i should go with an orange spring???? I also changed my primary to gold...

Thanks:beer;:beer; Pat

Yep, what he said

Any help ? Is the orange spring worth it?

Yeah. The orange has much better backshift, holds RPM's better, runs cooler. I think your gonna like that combo. I run something very similar on my M7. What do you have for a helix? I think 42/36 would be close to ideal, but haven't run that helix with that spring yet.
