Heh Hey I have a question, Why are you still here? with a price like that I wouldn't hesitate

Ah yes, that would be a good buy.... Maybe he wants to learn about the sled he is buying though. Best way to learn is to buy himself a stock 900 and tear into it so he knows it like the back of his hand LOL

Its a great price BUT you MUST be able to wrench on a 900 or have a back up sled nearby or have a mechanic ride with you !

Plus to keep it reliable (and your sanity) you must do the 900 oh please don't grenade on me 40 mile miles from the trail head precheck inspection prior to riding.

This could all be alleviated if you have tons of money to throw under the hood

Or just buy a newer sled 3 times the price.

Only bad a$$es can ride a 900. Everytime I see one I go shake the guys hand. Guess what I always notice...Dirty hands.. I have never asked why but I assume he was up all night getting his sled ready for the next day. They might not be the hardest running sled but I respect the tough people who make um work. Anyone can ride a new sled that runs and starts all the time. Only a person with a true passion can harness the full potential of the 900, only to watch it falter and need fixed. All I know is you get one you also get to buy new tools so that a plus. Maybe I will see you around for a hand shake good luck.

I would disagree with the reliability of the 900. As long as you do the updates to the sled it is damn reliable. I have 3 900's now and I trust them all with my life. After doing the updates I don't worry about being stranded anymore LOL.

Do you take 3 out at a time somehow?:face-icon-small-win

Oh you've done updates ... please explain? or do a search using my name of the 100's of update posts on the 900 or use mountainhorse who is much more knowledgable and skilled than I

And the 900 doesn't need any specialized precheck on the mounts, clutch bolt torque, throttle cable, TPS sensor calibration and wires, voltage regulator, secondary float, bearings on the jackshaft, play on the handle bar adjustment?

I am glad you have 3 fixed 900's never needing anymore special attention than any other sled out there.

I own three and never had one that didn't come out of the hills on its own power. They have however towed a lot of other sleds off the mountain.

Let the slam session begin ... Oh wait my 900 heard that and is now comtemplating a intermittent short or another fray on the pull cord so I fiquire out how to get the bottom bolt out in front of the frame with our removing the engine. :gossip:

Yeah when my buddies come up from downstate and they need a sled to ride.

I'm sorry, I do check things out every weekend just to make sure nothing is rubbing and proper torque is applied to where it is needed. I haven't had a clutch bolt come lose yet, I loctite everything on the troubled areas of this sled. You will figure it out, I have faith in ya LOL. The best investment I ever made was buying the kevlar wire loom and wrapped every harness in it :)

Well, I bought a 2005 900 RMK 3 years ago with 800 miles on it for $2600 in Tahoe from a kid who needed rent money. He was the second owner. It was basically stock other than an SLP can and reflash. I did all the upgrades that the Forum here and Mountainhorse suggested (some he actually helped me with since he lives up the road from me). Those upgrades consisted of:

1. New helix, 66-44 ER .46/66-42ER .46
2. New driven clutch spring, red/pink
3. New Delrin washers in driven clutch
4. New primary clutch weights, 10-70
5. New primary clutch spring, Polaris almond/Team green
6. Clutch balanced by Indy Dan with bushings replaced
7. Jackshaft bearings replaced with new
8. Torque stop replaced with new, OEM
9. Intake throttle body boots replaced with new, Kimpex
10. Front and rear motor mounts replaced with new OEM 2006 mounts
11. Thermostat replaced
12. Injectors sent to Witchunter Performance for cleaning and flow test
13. Installed 08 Dragon spindles
14. Set chamber and toe with new spindles
15. Installed 225# track spring and adjusted limiter straps to full loose
16. Install new fuel filter
17. Changed gearing to 18/40 (new gears same chain)
18. Changed gear case oil, Polaris synthetic
19. Installed new float sending unit in fuel tank
20. Installed refurbished mag-side cylinder (Nikasil was bad in old one)
21. Installed new OEM 2006 pistons, rings, clips and pins
22. Install new throttle/oil cable, Motion Pro similar to FBF cable
23. Install new hyfaxes and adjust track tension
24. Fabricate and install intake boot heat shield
25. Installed two vent screens
26. Install 3211115 Polaris belt

I probably did other upgrades too but can't remember them all. I do the yearly regular maintenance items like lube the chassis, clean the VES, adjust the track etc.
I have almost 3200 miles on it now and I've never seen so much as a single problem with it. My 11 year old son and I go out 40 to 50 miles in the Sierra's every other weekend during the 5-6 month season here and do at least 75 miles per day. I too have towed back many other sleds including others of mine (not 900's).
In fact I bought my new 2012 Pro RMK 163 for others to ride when I take people besides my son and I. I'll stick to my beloved 900 and may only ride the Pro once in a while.
Mountainhorse once told me that if you do all the upgrades to the 900, it will be as reliable as any other sled out there. He was right as far as I'm concerned!

John
