2005 - 2006 Engine Swap

I have a 2005 with a good engine, I am looking at a 2006 with a bad engine.

So is there any Diffrence in the Jugs like additional FI ports in the 2006, or are the injectors in the TB .

My 2005 motor is ported high Compression ect, don'r really want to dismantel it.

Any other possible issues ?

CFI 2 to CFI 4 harness and ECU if I remember correctly Wouldn't dismantle 05 engine do a complete swap? . Rebuild bad 06?

It would be easier to rebuild the 06 motor. You CANNOT put an 06 motor in an 05 chassis, but I don't see any reason you couldn't put an 05 motor in an 06 chassis... You would just have to swap over the ECU/wiring harness to handle the 2 injector motor versus the 4 injector 06 setup. Also you'd have to change out the fuel pressure regulator inside the fuel tank from the 06-116 PSI to the 05-58 PSI.

Lee..

What you are you trying to do with the 06 chassis?

are you wanting to put the 05 engine in the 06 chassis or just rebuild the 06 motor?

depending on what your overall goal is...here is my expierence with the 05/06

--if you want to put an 05 engine in the 06, you can do this very easy...just gotta change a few things over from an 05 also...engine will bolt in fine, you will need to change the ecu, hald the wiring harness for sure...you shouldnt have an issue with the oil tank and steering column (06)..since the 2 injectors arent really in the way, but wouldnt be much work to convert if needed.

dont put an 06 in 05 unless you got time, money and skills, lol..

this is what i did and its been SICK!!!

on my budget 900 build, i have an 05 bottom end with TM1...out on 06 cylinders...got custom upper injector plugs from indydan to plug the cyl injector holes..used 05 fuel rail...but the issue was with the steering column, the 05 column hits the upper injecor boss on the 06 cyl...so i cut the boss section off just enough to clear the steering post...and runnig 05 fuel pump 58psi regulator

the 06 OEM cylinders are ported from the factory and are the same as the 05 ported cyl that SLP charges $500 for...so i wanted to get the ported perf....running an Rk-Tek head with the SLP perf pkg ecu flash...and it RIPS...

depending on whats wrong with the 06 engine, you could go with an 05 bottm end and use the 06 cyl and do like i did above and have a solid sled with the relaibility and ease of the 05's 2 injectors with the 05 fuel pressue (58psi vs 116psi)

Will pick up the Sled and See

2006 - The second owner says it has 1800 miles on it "with all upgrades"

Apparenly the first owner worked at polaris dealership.

I asked about he Crank upgrade he had no idea.

Now my 2005 has a built motor ported cyl , upgraded crank high compression head etc. SO I basiaclly wanted to swap motors and sell the 05

ARE THE FUEL INJECTORS in the CASE or the JUGS ?

CAN I put my Good Crank it in the 2006 Motor with new pistons, then put the 06 crank in the 05 motor and sell it.

I can' find a single Picture of the back sid of one of these engines showing the injectors.

The 2 05 injectors are in the case only, the 06 has 2 injectors in the case, and also 1 in each cylinder... the cases and crank are the same from 05 to 06, the cylinders are what's different (added injectors).

seths info is correct...

the only issue with switching the cranks is this..

a crank wears evenly with a case, so when you switch the crank is not the same amount of wear..this is why places "line bore" them and make t hem match...so switching the crank could cause an issue later on...may not...im sure the updated crank when installed isnt lined bored to customers cases...and some may not have issues, but i knows its been brought up several times by indydan and he says to line bore them....

god luck buddy.

Got 2006 Sled home

It has the SLP kit on it.

Y pipe
Pipe
Reeds
Head
ECU Flash

bumpers mounts etc.

The guy I bought it from is a little clueless, nice guy, all he knows is it is way to much sled for him

Vibrates worse than my 2005 with the updated crank, I think.

So can I mic the crank to see if is the updated version ? If so what am I looking for ?

I still would be up for the crank swap if needed, at least new pistons in it.
I understand the case line boring issue.

Will post pics when I can out of town now.
