2004 rmk 800 opinions

I am posting this for my buddy who is looking at maybe picking up a 2004 rmk 800. Are there any outstanding issues this model is known for or anything particular to look for before purchasing? Thanks.

The only things about this model is the crank issue. And a big bearing kit is a farse so don't put much confidence in that. If it goes it goes if not your lucky. repair cost for a typical crank going down is around 1500 or better. This sled if taken care of should be selling for no more than 3000. there are quite a few newer sleds going for less than double this.

It is a good sled, I had an 03 with 5000 miles on it until last year. Hardass is right the crank is the only fault. I rebuilt mine for about $2000 with the big bearing, not sure it helps as i sold it before putting 1000 miles on it. I think the key is to keep the clutch in good shape, including having it balances often.

Install new clutch springs/weights, and have clutch balanced or install a brand new one. Install a steeper helix as stock is not enough, how steep you go depends on elevation. Make sure the engine mounts are solid, I'd install an Aatac, no more jetting woes. Increase your oiler a bit to use more oil. Run the 1115 belt, adjust the clutches and he won't blow belts. Vent it to get out the heat.
I'd buy an 800 if that is what I wanted, no worries. Some people blow things outa proportion on some issues and forget about the fixes!

Marv you are right on here also add a torque stop and gear it down.
give it some air SLP air intake. Stay away from Polaris oil, use Red line or a good quality oil.

Not sure what length of track your buddy is getting.
The low blue book for a 04 rmk 151 is $3100.00 and high is $4100.00
if it is a 159 it is low of $3300 and a high of 4250.00.
These sled are very good sleds, Do the stuff above and it will work great.
