2004 RMK 700 won't rev out

My buddy has an 04 vertical edge RMK 700. The sled is bone stock with the polaris team secondary. All stock clutching. The sled use to run good, it sat for over a year and then wouldn't rev past 7000. I put new gas in it, cleaned carbs, cleaned the valves, new plugs, put a new belt on it and it is still doing the same thing.

The engine feels really good on bottom through mid but if you pin it open it is like something hinders it. Almost like it wants to continue revving out but then backs off and stays at 7000 and is real boggy.

Any ideas or things I can check?

My 02 800 was just doing the same thing. Changed out both clutch springs and cleaned them up good. Runs like new!

Yea. They are original clutch springs. Sled has like 500 miles on it, had been sitting for awhile out in the weather. I'll look into new springs. Any special tools to change them out?

If you don't have the tools, you are better off taking the machine to a shop and heve them do it (unless you want to invest in the tools).
While it's at the shop, have them go through the carbs also. Mine also had a bit of water and gunk in the bowls. Worth every penny!

It only takes a socket to change the primary spring. I'm sure you looked the bellows over real good for leak's?Also the hole coming from the cylinder to the ves get's plugged so be sure and check that as well.

My 03 700 RMK does that if I have the key set to "prem" - it is fine low to mid range and then the top end it sort of surges and won't run out. If I switch the key to "reg" then it runs fine. Thinking the CDI?? What is this key switch controlling, anyway?
