2004 kingcat 900 HELP

we have a 2004 king cat 900 that we just rebuilt the engine on. It burned down the PTO side and we replaced the jug, piston, and everything that goes with that. got it running again(and added a speedo since it didn't have one) Since we rebuilt it, it likes to throw on the temp light indicators. for the first while they wouldn't turn off. I unplugged the speedo and pluged it back in with the sled running and this turned the temp ligts off for some reason. But tonight it kicked the temp light again after only going 3 miles. The cooler is not having water dripping off it so it doesn't seem like it is over heating but yet the temp light is coming on. Any one seen this? any help is welcome we are out of idea's.

Could be the thermostate, but be sure to check your wiring and water temp plug. I think you have a temp light in both the speed-o and the tack, I'd have to look again to be sure. If you are only getting it on the one gauge it may be just a short in it.

The temp light is on both the speedo and tach, just got done riding it. I had a thought that it could be the thermostat... cause before when we first re-built the motor it would overheat.... then I took it out last week to test ride it again and the temp light never came on, rode for a good 30 minutes.

the guys took it out today for a 5 mile rip and temp light never came on either, but when I went out tonight to test ride it again didnt get but 2 miles and the temp light was on....

could be a stuck thermostat??? I spose the easiest way to tell is take the thermostat out and see if it runs coolant thru the boards i guess....

It sure didnt seem like there was warm coolant thru the boards, cause I stuck my hand on the back tunnel cooler and there was snow and ice there, if it was overheating it would be basically water... right???

thanks for all the help on this one guys, kinda at a loss....

After rebuilding my top end both times i have had a air bubble in tyhe system rigth at the thermostat and temp sending unit. I fixed it bu taking the hose off at the thermostat and filling it with coolant right there. If you have a bubble there it wont ever work out because the thermostat will never open. The air doesnt get hot enough to open it. Be careful that you dont burn it down again from overheating. Burning down on the PTO side is strange for the 900 motor. They always burn down on the mag side, thats why most people run the mag side one jet richer.

pull your thermostat out and check it...if they get stuck they usually get stuck open..if it is not open, toss it in a pot of boiling water...watch it, it should open slowly. if it works drain all your coolant, refill, burp the system and try it again...the thermostats on the 900s have been known to fail...i carry a spare just in case. if thats not it...could be your water pump.
