2003 ZX with Speedometer pulsing. Exorcism Required?

My 2003 summit has a Speedo issue. This is a sled I bought last spring with the engine in pieces. I just now finished re-assembly and started it for the first time.

Speedo pulses up and down scale irregularly. Odometer and trip cycle repeatedly on their own. Spinning the track shows no noticeable speed. Speedometer just seems to continue with it's Demon possession. Unplugging sensor causes issue to go away. I have already verified a good ground and power to sensor. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Is the sensor pickup in the end of the drivers?

Yes the pickup is in the drive shaft, intact and not broken. Drive bearing is good. Sensor housing appears fine, not cracked- pretty basic setup with a magnet in the pickup and field ring in the sensor housing.

I some times see a code "-136-" as the odometer is flashing between trip and odometer.

Is there any known way to test the sensor or the Guage?

Can anyone verify the digital (odometer) display is supposed to display "-MPH-" after a certain speed?
