2003 ZX 800 HO REED QUESTION

I was puling the carbs off last night for routine cleaning and found the exterior of the reed/ intake boots delaminating. With new OE boots around $95 apiece I was figuring now was a good time to upgrade to Boyesen or V-Force reeds and not have to worry about the boots anymore. One question is, is the 800HO in a ZX chassis exclusive to '03? Any pearls of wisdom in choosing reeds for my sled? Boyesen vs V-Force? Thanks in advance for all your good help!

I believe the 800HO was introduced in '03. As for the reeds, if you go with V force you will still have to wory about the boots. I would/have gone to Boyesens for that one reason - no more worries about delam.

so according to the nice peeps at Boyesen I need a set of "RAD81A-2 CUSTOM with the boost bottle holes plugged." for my 03 800 HO. Kinda figured they would have me use the ones for a rev 800HO, dunno what the difference is, but they are the pros. Thanks for all the advise, i'll get them ordered today.

JUST TO KEEP THE ? ALIVE

Have you looked at the boots yet??? i would say thats your problem AND NOT THE DPM...

I dont know if the boyesen reeds exactly match the dimensions of the stock boots but I just replaced my 03 zx boots this spring and the dealer first gave me the wrong ones which were only slightly different but it made it so the air box fit was all ****ked up. Dealer then gave me the correct ones and airbox fits perfectly like it should.

* All Rotax-793 using the non "hooded" type of carb should use the Boyesen : RAD81A-2 ( With Boost-Bottle hole ).

* All Rotax-793 using the "hooded" type of carb should use the Boyesen : RAD84-2 ( Without Boost-Bottle hole ).

Your 2003 Summit-X 800 H.O. uses the "hooded" style carburetor,
therefore you should use the Boyesen RAD84-2
