Grab the engine by the VES valves and lift. If it lifts up slightly, relative to the sled, the engine mounts are already torn. They tear every 500 to 1000 miles. Removing the engine is not difficult. It takes maybe a half hour.

Gear it down and go with a stiffer spring in the secondary clutch and a helix with less angle in the helix. go with the 4 inch handlebar riser

It depends on how much you want to spend but if cost isn't a huge issue get the performance edition kit from slp. The kit rocks- i have it on my 02 and at 1200 feet i can ride 1 sled length behind my dads '11 etech 800 and haven't been beaten by anything else. Make sure you get the higher elevation heads with it and you will be able to go anywhere you want to in the mountains. You lose 3% hp for every 1000 feet of elevation and the heads help you recover a lot of that loss- best thing you can do for the mountains.
