2003 Polaris Pro X 700cc Engine seized...

I have someone who is looking to sell their sled for $600. They said they were riding the sled along the flats when the motor just quit on them. They towed it home and its been sitting for a year now. The pull cord wont pull, they said it felt completely seized.

Im guessing this is a total rebuild and not worth the cost? They are about 200 miles away from me, they arent mechanically capable and dont want to try and perform some tasks to see if its top end or not.

I wanted to take a socket and try and see if I could turn over the motor using the driven clutch. Other than that, no real way to find out if its the crank until I remove the heads...

Should I take the risk? I really don't want to have more than $1200 into the sled...

It has a 136" track, risers, pipes, seat, cowling, suspension is all in good condition. They bought a new sled and this one has just been sitting. I have no idea what parts cost for these motors.... I am OK with doing the work myself, just don't want to be throwing away money if the parts could cost me over a grand alone.

Well, I had the owner try and turn the crank over by hand by spinning the driven clutch. The motor spins freely so hoping it's just something top end related or something easier.... Going to take the risk and buy it. I have always liked them ProX machines.

You are going to have to take the engine completely apart and check everything. There will be something seriously wrong with the engine. Plan on a rebuilt crank, renicing the cylinder heads, new rings and maybe new pistons.
