Looking at a low mile 800 for a family friend, appears bone stock. Not really familiar with this motor and chassis. Anything we should be aware of? How is reliability? Appreciate any input. :face-icon-small-hap

Thanks a million!!!

Make sure the speedometer works, if it doesn't the bearing on the driveshaft under the driven clutch may be worn out. That is the biggest weakness on these sleds. That bearing needs greased frequently. Also check the oil in the chaincase. If it is low the chain may be worn and in need of replacement. Check the weights in the drive clutch and see if they are running straight and centered in the rollers. There are bushings in the weights that need replacing about every season.
The 8 and 900 Cat engines are as tough and reliable as any out there.

Great thanks so much for the input. Will be sure to look those things over.

Frequent (as in every ride) grease on the speedo bearing isn't enough, it should be replaced every season or maybe two, even if the sled was only ridden a couple times per year. When it freezes up and drops the driveshaft out in the snow, you'd better hope you're riding with a guy who goes by the handle "Kidrman" Yeah, that might be the voice of experience. :face-icon-small-blu

Like said by Sewer Rat, I replace mine every year for good measure and so my buddys don't hae to drag me out of the woods on a great day:hurt:
