2001 summit x piston failure with pics

looks like they had more miles on than that!! Kinda looks like something else went through there!!

thats my worry put new pistons in it and be right back here again there was oil in the bottom of crank so it has to be getting oil nothing stands out. It did burn a spark plug boot on the last ride. But we put a new one on and my dad rode it to the truck. I noticed aluminum on the plug that's why i investigated who knows big mystery

Need to mic that cylinder - too much piston to cylinder wall clearance can result in this problem.

ok checked cylinders bot are 82mm dead on piston that is good mics 81.2 mm that seams like alot of clearance mabee those pistons were pritty shot. whats the normal piston clearance on a ski doo cylinder in inches is 3.218 piston is 3.1875 which makes .0305 which is way loose since bore is good piston must be worn ? i would like about .0030 max right? that seams to be pritty standard piston clearance is that norm for a doo?

I'm not sure of the spec for that motor....BUT if you have .030 piston/cylinder clearance you have an issue.

I definitely think thats a problem where did all the piston go or possibly wrong pistons installed at one point who knows bores are good ordered new pistons have to see how they measure

Cyls. are allright after scoring a piston and breaking a skirt off? Boy, mine sure didn't stand up to much.

If this is on an 800, I am pretty sure your piston to cylinder clearance on with a new piston should be .0057 +/- .0005 and max wear is .0079

Double check these measurements against a manual before proceeding

if your number is truely .030 it is time for replating and new pistons. Send the cylinders out with the new pistons so they are matched to fit.

I'd get those cyls. exchanged, Sea-Doo clinic, Millenium Tech., MCB Perf. is good, they can set You up with a complete top-end kit for a good price.Guess you already got pistons coming way it sounds, hope you went with dual ring pistons and caged piston pin bearings.:face-icon-small-coo
