Looking at buying a used one as a backup any issues with these sleds???

This one has 2800 miles and he wants 3000 CAD Delivered about 4 hours to my door.

What should the compression be on the sled ??? At what PSI should I rebuild or as long as it is the same on both should be OK

Any issues to look for???

good sled and good chassis... that price is pretty good delivered.

If that is your backup sled, I would ride it and not worry about a rebuild until after 4000 miles. One of our buddies has at least 7500 miles on the same sled with no major problems and still original pistons etc.

ride it hard and enjoy!

sorry... compression should be 120 and up. If they are the same and still in the 110-115, I wouldn't worry. Less than that... needs to be refreshed... $250 should take care of that and then you are good for another bunch of miles

Buddy with an 800 same year, just blew this rod bearing this spring, took out rod end, cracked case (which we were able to salvage and weld up) piston and scored cylinder. Speedo says it has 3500 kms on it (about 2000 miles). Speedo might have not been hooked up all the time by previous owner though........my suspicion by some other indicators anyway. I would check: compression test, crank run out, redo the top end for sure, or get a new crank, pistons, and all seals and refresh the whole thing, can be done for about $1000 on the 800, 700 should be close to the same price.

I had 2- 2001 700 Summits and when I sold them they were both over 3500 miles and never had a problem (except 1 can mount). They were both still very strong. So preseason it and throw your leg over the saddle. That was a strong machine.

Don't want to be the first negative comment but my 01' 700 had the mag. side crank bearing crap out. salvaged the motor just replaced the mag side bearings and seals. I had alot of people tell me they sould be torn apart and grease the crank bearings every 2500Mi or so. wasn't too costly and did it myself. I do love the sled and am glad to still have it for back-up. also the risers are one of the best mods i did, highly recomended!
