2001 summit 151 to 144

Hey guys i was planing to take my 121 sled and build it up to a 144 but i found a 151 chassie in better shape so i bought that. well what do i need to do to make my 144 susp. and track fit in that sled? i bolted up the front bolts and the rear bolts didnt line up but the track seemed like it was going to be way to loose so i bolted up the back mounts and the front holes are way off but it seems to be getting the track tighter. WHAT SHOULD IT DOOOOOOOO
Thanks guys

If both are '01, then it should bolt right in. There could be a bit of deformation in the rear mount distances possibly from being out of the sled? It shouldn't be off much eh?

IF the 144 skid is from an '02 or '03 - then it will fit a 136 track on an '01 chassis.

Doo you still have the 151 skid to measure agginst? Every thing should be the same except the end of the 151 is longer is all. Everything from the mount forward should all be exactly the same.

???

Iv got the 144 suspension and 144 track but heres what is hanging me up if i bolt the suspension up to the sled in the front bolt holes it looks like the track is to long and the rear suspension mounts are 3inches to far back but if i bolt it up in the back to bolts on the suspension the track will get tight but the front bolts are about 3inches to far forward so im not sure what to do

How 'bout you measure what you have.

I have 30-5/16 roughly between centers on my chassis on an '02.

My suspension is out loose and is maybe 1-1/4" longer as it sits free.

Let's see what you got and go from there.

Also while your out there with the tape - hows 'bout you measure the distance from the front arm mount ON THE RAIL to the middle of your rear idler. This will really help to figger out what you really have.

Hey guys man thanks for all the input i just went out and took some meashurements hers what i have

Susp. mouting points center to center its about 31.5
Holes on the chassie to mount susp. is about 33.5
front swing arm to rear idle wheel center to center about 33.5

Its pretty apparent one of the holes need to shift a lil bit but im not sure if i need to move the front hole or the rear mount? Thanks for all your help agine guys

I'll try and measure one for you tomorrow
Have you measured the holes on both sleds? A friend had a 01 MXZ with a 121 and extended out to a 144 and everything fit fine. I installe 07 151 susp. in and 02 to make it a 159 should all fit.

My '02 measures 30-5/16 to the upper rear hole and up to 30-1/2" on the lower mount hole on the rear for center/center distances on the chassis.

My suspension setting out loose measures long, but will pull in when mounted. So your 31.5 on the rear suspension sounds right - and it should have prox 30-3/8" mount holes to bolt to.

I know the rear susp was further ahead on the '01 and older (as well as Rev and newer?) I would have guessed that not only the front but the rear mounts were moved back, but I guess I don't know that - and untill someone with an 00 or 01 chimes in - who knows?

It sure sounds like you must have an '02 or '03 Zx rear and that the '02/03 must be shorter than the 01. ???

It sounds like you need to pop a new hole further back in the front to me in the same place an '02 or '03 would have been. (but I'm not there) This would be the same as any thread that shows you how to "set your suspension back" on any yr sled other than '02/'03 Zx's.

All you really need to doo is take off that steel plate that is rivited on _ on the inside, and move it back 3" and re-mount it. But you should git a pc of alum plate to put on the outside of the tunnel to strengthen it up before you rivit your steel plate fast. If you look where your front hole is now - it should be dbl wall thickness between the bulkhead plate and the tunnel plate.

Put several rivits in this plate to the tunnel.

Also - we have before - on a Pol - ran a bar from the new hole up to the old hole and bolted that fast as well.

Hopefully you can find a thread on this with pics still "up" as that is quicker than a 1000 werds. :face-icon-small-win

IMO - while you have all that out and are making chips - I recommend drilling the 10mm threads out of the cross bar inside the front scissors (the one that you are bolting to up front) and tapping it out to 7/16 and installing with grade 5 or 8 bolts. I sheared off one of those little 10mm jobbies once. :face-icon-small-dis

This may require drilling the front hole out bigger as well. I don't remember anymore. ??? I haven't broken anymore front bolts! :cheer2:

I have bolted a susp. from an 01 straight into an 02 chassis with no changing at all just installed a longer track.
Any pictures of chassis and susp.? It would help
