2000 summit recoil ... pull rope won't engage..

First post... I did a bunch of searching but was not sure if my 2000 summit has the same recoil stator problems the late model 08's009's rotax does?

Basically my rope start wont engage as I pull it . I assume the clip is broken?
I pulled about 50 times and gave up and looked you guys up.

is the fix the same... tap out and thread a spaced bolt in there?
steer me in the right direction..

If the clip came off the post then you should notice a little extra noise in there and the metal clip could be destroying your stator.

If the plastic (Garbage) part has worn out from jerking the roap out before it engages then you have a whole other issue.
Thats what happened to mine.

Thats what happens when you pull the cord before the starter engages.

It's very easy to pull the starter off your sled, especially a ZX.
you'll se right away what's wrong with it.

Is it extending out as you pull it, it should cam on itself and extend out to grab the spline on the motor. I had a 2001 Summit and the recoil was the bane of my existence. I had to replace the whole thing at least onece a year. They are garbage. I got good at starting it off the primary though

As for your problem if it is camming out I would look to see it the metal spline on the motor is worn.

Good luck, hopefully you don't need to replace the whole assembly.

no it is not extending itself out as I pull it...

not sure I can see why it would extend.. maybe something is missing?

does it pull the rope back in?? my spring broke on my newer recoil, maybe your getting some binding issues in the cam, so it doesnt allow it to open and catch.

spring was in upside down ... not sure why it worked for 3 years..

it's fubar


Where can I buy online fast....

I hit 2 dealers here in Utah and they both said they just sold their last springs...
