picked up a summit 700 with a bad pto rod bearing .when i pulled it a part it apears there is no grease on the mag side bearings. do i need to grease the mag side bearings before i put the new crank in? or does the mag side get oil from the oil injection?

thanks

thanks guys great help. is that 50 gram tube enuff to do the mag side bearings u think?

fifty grams is what it takes to do the bottom end, that is all four outer bearings. most reman cranks the inner/outer bearings are greased and you just need to add some to the seal and the outside of the outer bearing. so around 25 grams.

The 2000 700 motor came with only the PTO bearings greased, the mag end gets its lube from the fuel/oil, both crank ends got grease starting in 2001. You cannot just add grease to the bearings on a 2000. Anyone who suffered crank problems on 2000 model year sleds got a crank update kit to bring it to the 2001-current specs with grease on both ends. The kit included a new crank with a new seal arrangement, instructions on how to tap and plug the mag bearing oil feed hole, hardware included (failure to do this will result in fuel washing the the grease out) and a weighted disc for the mag side of the flywheel.
