2 wheel kit questions

has anyone put a two wheel or big wheel kit on thier king kat? heard it helps with handling especially sidehilling.. if so is it worth it?? let me know thanks

lot of ppl have, it helps a little but the best and cheapest is go with the stock 08-09 M stuff.

Well its 3/4 lb less rotational mass, And when converted to the 8" wheels a little less resistance. But it seems to lean over easier into the side hill. Almost wants to wash out the back end at times! Try it, You can always go back! + it took up the slack in the track and makes to converting to a 156" a breeze.

Thanks
Mike

Mike, please explain more about the 156 conversion. I've thought about swapping out my 151 for a 156. ThanKs!

I made custom forward mounted alum. brackets instead of the low mounted steel brackets for a shallower angle of the front arm. You could take the front brackets and mount 2.5" forward of their original location to extend the skid back? Then you would have to drill new holes for the rear scissor mount and stop bar. This will eat up the 5" extra lg. of the longer track. It will also allow the use of extro drivers as the skid will then clear.

Hope this helps

2 wheel kit.......

I am the naysayer. It cost me over a thousand buck after loosing one bearing on the rear axle. New rails, track, axle, chaincase. Good luck with that one. If you ride with me I'll have a wheel to loan you, I have four on my sled now. I guess I'll not worry about the extra ounces that I carry, and I can sidehill just fine. -00's

Double zeros, Sorry about the 2 wheel kit letting you down, I often wondered about that scenario if one of the wheels let go! I for one am not worried about the weight either, But it was an easy way to get rid of the 7.125" wheels and upgrade to the 8" Maybe AC went this route for more repair work in the future once the miles rack up? The 8" wheels were new take offs, But I went with the larger bearing 25mm bearing and re machined the wheels to accept it. I hope it holds up in the back country? I have replied because I gave out some wrong info on the previous post. The relocation brackets fit in the back two holes and are offset forward in between the original mounting bracket. This way I can move them forward if needed, The original you can't move forward! Sorry, Has been a while since I put them on.

Thanks
Mike

when i went from a 151 to 156 kinda a pain in the *** but the outcome was sweet, there is two hole is the steel bracket for the front skid bolt simple drilled the back one out, think its 2 1/8 back from the front one, and moved the rear factory brackets back the same amount. worked out sucked drilling the 60 rivets out of the factory brackets, but was nice cuz 2 1/8 inches lined up with some of the whole perfectly, hope this helps somewhat

I did the 156X2.5 on my MC originally and it worked really well, I'd recommend doing a suspension set back like Mike was talking about to clear the extroverts without chopping your rails. Also you should go with a 16" wide for the added time to do that its well worth it. Now I am running a 162X16X2.5 and love it. As for the 2 wheel kit I have it, it only cost me some time just cut down the axle you have now and make some spacers. I like it alot, I think it did make a noticeable difference.

hey guys if you do want to go to a two kit, WWW.idahoprecisionmachining.com Jason there has some nice kits and his prices are very reasonable. 8" wheels 2 for under a 100.00. these are aluminum wheels. not really the place. But i just put 9" wheels on my kk900 and cant wait to see how they run. just my 2 cents

I went from 151 to 159 on my 03 1M, anyone know if going to the 2 wheel kit with larger wheels will help take up some slack. I relocated the suspension like mentioned above but just need a little more length for some track adjustment. thanks.

If you have the 7.125" wheels, Going to a 8" will give you about .700" of tightening. If 9" it would be about 1.50" back from where you are located.

Hope this helps Mike
