2 Little Phazers for cabin sleds ?

There's 2 phazers ("late 80's") down the road I can pick up for $1000. I ride a REV, but want some "cabin cruizers". I know that a Phazer is kind of a classic, is that because they are reliable? I opened the hood and it didn't even look like there was an engine in there! I guess one is a 500 "that gets up the hills good"... maybe they both are. The tracks don't really even have paddles, more like bumps. Athough one has plastic mini paddles bolted to it.

They both started right away and sounded, uh, good.

I'm pretty much sold on grabbing these just to get people up to the cabin...

Any opinions?:beer;

Phazers

These little sleds are Bullet proof and would probably be great for the purpose you're talking about! I had 2 of them and my kids pretty much abused them and they just kept on running!

Good Luck

They are fan cooled 485 c.c.'s

Reliable sleds for what they are. I had one years ago. The only problem with mine is the top bolt above the fan shroud vibratated lose. Went into the fan sheared off the blades. And melted one piston down.....Didn't hear a thing when the fan blades were being tore off.

After the rebuild I locktite the crap out of that bolt.

Kind of a late reply, but I've got a 95 Phazer II St. It is a longer track at 136". I took off the original 3/4" track and put on a 1.5" track with no issues. My wife still loves it. It's great for trails and playing in the meadows. Not much power for hills, you need a running start on some, but it is the sled that inspired mods for mountain machines. A classic and one worth having.

The price is about right if they are in good shape. They don't get much cheaper.

Well we picked them up and I'm in shock about how much power they have. My wife will be riding one (the cabin is about as far as she goes) and the other one we gave to our 8 year old son. I can't believe how hard they pull, and I'm a little worried about my kid! I'm 220 and can keep the skis in the air the whole way up our 300' steep driveway!

Is it reasonable to get an 8 year old started on a sled like this? Could I maybe "govern" it for him to learn on?

This will be my first year with kids on sleds (I have a 6 year old daughter too) and can use any pointers you parents might have!

Put a hose clamp behind the throttle lever so it only opens up 1/2 way, if you need to get it over any bigger hills you just need a flat screw driver to open er up:beer;
Buy good clothes for the kids or they will be cold, take snacks, treats and try not to scare the sh*t out of them riding up or through stuff that they are not comfortable with. My kids have been on sleds before they were 1, my daughter is 12 and my son is 8. Don't plan on making as many miles as riding with your buds yet..
