have a 42 bottom & 18 top gear for 2.33. Is this too much, is it going to run like tractor?

I've heard of guys running 2.25 but never 2.33.

I run a 18/43....174x2.5 sled does about 80 max but really nice in deep snow and very snappy I like it but forget trail riding as ur gunna run slow. 19/42 for all around use

gearing

I have the stock bottom gear with reverse....assuming a 38 and a 19 top. This is ok but I only see 85-ish top on the flat.....I might consider going to the 42 bottom if it would increase track speed in the deep. Who in the hell rides 80MPH any where? Very few places we ride do we go 80 MPH for more then 1/2 mile.
One way to think about this scenario would be if you go really low gears and have a top speed of 65MPH then it should carry this speed no matter what the terrain.....but how much of it equates to loss of actual speed when climbing is uncertain? If I rode higher elevations I would go much lower on the gearing, when I go up to 6500 feet I really feel the difference in my sled even when the RPMS are perfect!

I tried 17/43 also worked good but the 17 is way to small....lol.....

Try it. You may like it for your riding style. I personally think anything smaller than 19 puts alot of stress on the the chain. I've never seen one break though.

Is this on a 500 or something? I was running 2.10-1 on my sled and within 2 seconds after squeezing the throttle my clutches shifted way beyond out and crushed my secondary. The perfect gearing is one that allows your clutches to fully shift out.

jason you moved??? and you didn't tell me??? wtf!!!!! wow, i feel left out:) hey find some good places up there and will come and see ya...

its an 01 rmk 156", 2.5 pitch, 9 tooth drivers.

I would prefer the 19 top but didn't have one. I'll try it & check my clutches.

i think 18/42 is gonna be a bit much. But if ya have it you might as well try it. I always had good luck with 19/42.

can you get the 42 in the gen 2 chaincase, that will be tight, I always ran 19/41 when I had one
