1st time to St. Anthony dunes, advice?

I only live 2 hours away, but this is the first time I am taking a trip there. Will be taking a 26' class C motorhome pulling 3 quads. How will our quads do: '99 Scrambler 500 4x4, '95 trailblazer 250, '03 Predator 50? Any tips or advice on what to do or not do, or where to stay?

I would try and get a spot at sand hills. I think that's the name of the camp ground with the grass. It's a lot better for the kids also. If you stay at Egan lakes, it's closer to the big dunes, but the camp grounds are not nearly as nice. Sand hills also has bathrooms with running water. Have fun, and post some pictures when you get back.

dunes

You will have a blast. I am heading down there this weekend with a buddy and parents. We ride two 400xt can am's stock tires, a 01 500 scrambler with paddles, raptor with paddles and my 400ex with paddles.

We went last year with a 400 scrambler, 250 4x4 and my 400ex. We had stock tires on and had a great time. the 250 two stroke doesn't have a ton of power but he got everywhere we went but had to take the senic route.

have fun

You are going to have a ball !
With the machines you have Sandhills resort is the place to stay. Smaller easier dunes to ride. My 6 year old daughter has a polass 90 and she cant get up much. Probably a good thing. Going to get her small paddles this year.
Really fun riding over there. We usually stay at Egin and do two rides a day.
One big loop around the big stuff and one evening ride over to Sandhills.

Check out www.duneratt.com for some great info.

Be carfull with stuff you cant see over but when you learn how to ride them
its REALLY F U N !

I like the campground at the lake. You don't waist as much gas getting to the big dunes but like was said those smaller dunes are a kick as well.

Let the Tire PSI down a bit that helps a ton. Also if you don't have a paddle sometimes fliping the tire around backwords can help allot depending on tread pattern. Make sure your filters are oiled good to keep the sand out.

Other than that just be safe lots of guys get killed evey year out there lots of huge dunes and the tops are like a razer edge so don't go WOT over the top the dunes if you don't know if it's a roller. Lava and blow holes or as I call them Cat Eye's can mess up your ride as well. The Lava is at the bottom of some large holes and if you come over a lip and land ontop of them it's not going to feel very good. Cat Eye's are small wind blown holes about 6' by 6' and can be a deep and very hard to see depending on the light most times they are at the top of dunes or most or 80% of the time on the south side of the dunes.

Make sure to pay attention and have some common sense. The egin lake camp gound has been greatly improved recently so there is bathrooms and water and trailer hook-ups and most of the camp spots have tables too. Air down the tires and you'll be fine on those bikes. I rode a scrambler 500 last time I went and it did really well. duneguide.com is a great site for info also under the odds and ends tab there is some good stuff about safety and under the dunes tab there is a bunch of pics and info about the campsites. Have a killer time when you goin im headed up tomorrow.

My only advice is USE YOUR HEAD, read the terrain and watch the north slopes....seems like every weekend they are flyin somebody outta there.
Enjoy and be safe...........:beer;

Thanks for the advice guys, anything else I should know? Nice pics IDAHDOO, looks like fun! We are booked for June 20 to June 22 at Sand Hills Resort, should be good times. I am usually a careful rider, be it on sleds or quads, plus it will be mostly a family outing and we won't be hitting anything big, unless I can get my buddy to go. I will have to post pics when I get back. Will the 50cc do good at all, or will it need to be parked for the most part?

Your 50 will be ok. Theres sorta a main hwy from Sandhills to Egin Lakes CG.
Its easy to follow and lots of fun stuff to the sides.
Make a point to ride there, hang out at the lake ( its really warm ) check out the facilitys and ride back. Good fun trip with all kinds of riding. Mostly real easy rollers.
