1M Risers

A buddy of mine just picked up a 2004 900 King Cat. He is 6'7" tall and we are going to need to get him some risers. Based on a preliminary guess it looks like he needs 6" - 8" risers. We will probably stick with Ole's and we are prepared to replace the brake line and extend throttle cable and wiring. My question is how much rise do you think the steering column can handle without comprimising the structural integrity? He is a newer rider and will probably not be overly agressive but I want to try and do this right the first time. This thing is going to look like a Harley with ape hangers. Thoughts? Comments?

Will Rox adjustable risers fit the stock AC mountain bars from that year? That may be a better option if they will work.

If he taught to ride with his feet, the extension of the bars should not be an issue. It's only when people use the bar to pull the sled over that you start snapping posts.

If you do get a oles riser get the 6 hole plate also. It is worth every penny! I am sure you are going to get lots of people telling you to get a wildchild post with added lenght. That would be the BEST set up.

The stock posts are the weak spot. Anyone who has had a KK for a while has at least one bent stock post laying around, they just don't cut it!!! If I was going with that much of a riser, I would replace the post with a longer on and have it bent forward a bit.

Best choice: Aftermarket rider forward with extra length, no riser(makes the KK feel more like the M chassis)
Next: Aftermarket post, bend above bushing and extra length, no riser
Next: Aftermarket post, riser (makes the angle of bars feel weird when turning)
Last: Stock post with riser. You will bend it for sure, then do one of the three above.:(

I highly recommmend a Wildchild post, I use lots of his products, great guy to deal with and top notch products.:beer;

new post + riser= 2/3 the cost of a aftermarket post

yea I bent my stock one on the second ride,after adding a 3" riser..I guess I need to learn to steer with my feet ,so how is this done does one then sit on there head :face-icon-small-hap,if your not useing the bars for control and leveradge then you would obviously not need a riser on there ...best in my opinion will be to change the post to a forward +5 or 6 post will be cheaper in the long run and work good ,and you wont have a riser sitting on your shelf like me....

Thanks guys. How difficult is it to change out the stock post for an aftermarket one? I am fairly mechanically inclined but have not done this before. Which aftermarket post do you suggest?

wildchild is the only one I believe that will make it watever length you want ,its rather easy to install have to drop the belly pan to get to the bolt underneath , the mount up top is easy and trim the hood a bit,and the piece the oil tank mounts to ,I trimmed the one engine mount to ,to go that high have to add extensions and thats it...
