1M parts interchangability?

Just picked up the '04 1m 900 EFI yesterday. Looking around the parts suppliers, and classified ads, there isn't nearly as much stuff out there as there is for the newer sleds. I was curious if any parts are the same for the 1M that are out there for the newer M series? One item in particular is the skiis. Bolt on or completely different? I have read alot on the rear suspension swap, so I got that figured out already. What about handle bar controls? This sled came with the kill switch missing, and a broken switch for the thumb heater. Can these all be bought seperatly, or is it the entire throttle assembly on the right side?

Skis are pretty much universal for Cat except for some of the early 90's with cast spindles. I can check when I get home...I might have the whole throttle assembly that you need.

Check in the swap meet near the bottom of the main page. Sometimes just because what you are looking for isn't on the first two pages doesn't mean the parts aren't in there.

Agreed. But what does the classified section have to do with wondering what items fit both the 1M series and the newer style M series sleds? I was mostly curious what items are in fact interchangable. Some guys on here are lucky to own, or have owned both body styles and may have already tried fitting M series parts onto the 1M chassis. For me, I cannot afford both, or can afford to risk buying M series parts to see if they will fit or not. Hence my question.

You can buy that assembly from cat in one piece or you can buy each half. Seeing as how you need the kill switch AND the thumb warmer switch you need the whole assembly. It is like $68 from cat. And yes, some of the m series sleds had that same switch, up till the new handle bar 2 years ago.

Thats good info. I was hoping I could get the controls off of a newer, wrecked sled. Can you confirm that they will still plug into the stock wiring harness?

I misunderstood your question,, thought you were looking for parts. I apologize for not being smarter.

Well, after looking at http://www.babbittsonline.com/ The 1m has a different part number then other sled and that handlebar switch assembly. Who knows what the difference is?
Here is the part number you want
0609-520 It is $68.87 (for a 04 900)

The switches themselves are the same on the the '05 and '06 M's. However the wires may be longer or the plug may be different. If the kill button is just broke off you can take one off the M's and switch the button out.

Upon closer inspection today I found that the thumb warmer rocker switch is broken, the kill switch is missing, there is only the little rubber boot there, kinda like the button was pulled out. The thumb warmer itself is also gone. I guess I might as well just get the whole assembly I guess.

The kill switch button is replaceable on the 2001 and newer but unfortunately Cat doesn't sell it separately. I made one once out of aluminum once but it took a lot of time with a lathe and then a file. It wasn't worth it timewise but I haven't broken it again either. On some of the older ones just to top button could be replaced but all the ones I have ever seen break did it down inside the control assembly. I think the differences in the switches are just the length of the wires. The ZRs and some other models used the same switches but the wires are a lot longer on the mountain sleds so the plugs are sown inside the dash and don't show. Hope this helps.
