My friend has a 1999 ZR 440 Sno Pro, and he put a 1997 ZR 440 engine in this 1999 chassis. He bought this engine off the internet and is not sure if it is the race engine with roughly 100 HP or the liquid cooled 440 with about 70 HP. Is there a way to tell the difference between the engines (compression test or something like that)? Also depending on which engine it is what RPM should he be running? Thanks in advance for the help.

I had a '97 zr 440. The zr had case reed induction, the zl, thats the other 440, did not. The ZR motor should make about 92 hp at 8600-8800 rpm.
The ZL motor runs about 8200-8400.
Hope this helps.
