newer Iron will eat it up and be lighter

so not a good by then :boxing: well im switching to Polaris and like the wedge chassis so what would be a good by but i want to have more power then my mountain max 780

Honestly, do what you wanna do, who cares if your not the lightest sled or the most power, ride what you like to ride. I had a 08 RMK 700 and liked it, but now I have gotten rid of it and I am back on a wedge because thats what I grew up with and I like that chassis.

Now, as for the sled, how many miles are on it? now when you say "pipe", are you talking a single pipe or aftermarket tripple pipes? and if so, what brand. SLP triple pipes made some really good power for the ultra motor. when was the 800 top end done? a lot of variables. those 680 motors were pretty good, but a bit tricky to tune in a set of triple pipes. is the chassis in decent shape, how are the shocks? what does it have for a rear suspension? a lot of things to think about.

lets hear a little more about this sled bud.
thanks

CK

And also, new iron won't necessarily eat it up, I ride an 08 d7 with all the SLP stuff done to it and yes it is lighter and does handle better, but I also had a 96 ultra with pipes and reeds that would spank my d7 when pointing both of them straight up a hill

Those 680's took out to 800 had a lot of h.p. and tuned correctly will spank a lot of the newer sleds I had a piped ultra with a 151 and it ran good but as mentioned earlier was a bit of a bitch to tune. Hard to beat the sound of a piped triple. Just keep in mind you have one more of everything to keep in sync than a twin. Good luck Pat

Any idea whose 800 kit it is? I had a new 07 D7 too, and like everyone else I was less than impressed with the whole sled. Yes it handled ok and my shoulders didnt hurt at the end of the day from riding it, but the chassis flexed, the side panels fell off on big drops and the power and torque were well not near what even my 660 in my 00 Gen 2 chassis was.

I found myself riding the gen 2 more and more so in the end I just sold off the dragon and kept riding the 660, because thats what I liked.

I have never been one to think that newer is better, I judge it application to application some new things are better but the old iron works just fine as well.
To me there is nothing better than a triple 800 they make great reliable power. Your MTN max is no slouch either especially with that 780 kit, and a set of pipes it is a great reliable sled. In the end if you want the sled and think it will be better do what you like. A good set of shocks and newer rear skid makes it a totally different sled.

Link to the ultra ad?

I didnt know if it was on craigslist or what, I just figured that maybe someone else on the forums would be interested in buying it.

I have been riding a custom built 850 ultra engine for years now. in my old style wedge, it will spank the $#!% out of my buddys '02 700, and his '10 800 dragon. it doesn't handle as well, but I'm telling you, that is one tough engine to beat when you have the ability to tune it. Mine has PSI mod blaster pipes, Heads, "Big Air" carbs (cause its a never ending tuning battle...LOL!) and stage 5 PSI porting. The chassis is a custom bulkhead, Van Amburg tunnel, 144" track, and Holtz suspension all the way around. I love this sled, but Im going to try that engine in an '06 dragon chassis to see what happens.

That should be a fun ride when you're done with it. I too had an ultra. Mine ended up with a htg 800 bigbore on it with slp tripples. Man that thing pulled hard. Last sled was an 03 escape that was ported with twins. That pulled and ran great, but still couldn't touch the old ultra in a drag race.

Now, would I trade either of them for my Pro? NO WAY!!! Yes, I wish I still had them and could play with them on occasion, but would never ride all day in the mountains on them. Got to love the new chassis and suspensions, and the diet plan they have gone on.

I don't thinkl mod sleds are ever truly done! I've been modding my Ultra since 1997 and
I still find things to change or improve.
