1985 KX250 Candidate?

I restored an old 85 KX250 and converted it to street legal. With this conversion, I have 12v dc power, wide ratio trans, a ktm thermostat w/ bypass, and 3 sets of rims (supermoto 17s, stock 50/50, and full dirt). What i don't have is a snow kit. With the mods I did, I already have a good start to some of the things needed to make a smooth running snow bike. I just scored a 137x12.5x2" timbersled track with 2.86 pitch. its an NOS older design from what the seller said. I paid $215. it does have the windows cut and clipped which kinda sucks but it should work.

TLDR
I am going to try to build my own kit, but I wanted to hear from people what they think of a 137 with shorter lug (2") and a 250 2 stroke? I can't find HP numbers but from searching it makes about 42-44hp. I live in central WI but would like to make trips up north with both the bike and my sled.

It would be cool to see a retro set up like that ripping around the woods. I would however be looking at doing a 120" set up on not the 137". Budget however does always weigh in!
Also consider this. The money you will spend on making the custom kit will probably be as much as finding a 4 or 5 year old Timbersled kit. Lot's of work to hope you can make it as good as one of those kits.
Now if you are doing it for shear enjoyment and have loads more ability than I, Go For It...

how much do they go for? where im from they barely exist. I project this would cost about 800 max. early 2000s arctic skid, popo driver, existing aluminum and plastic material i have, chain and brake.

Btw i would be lengthening the links, and would hopefully have a large rear bogie, and modify the skid to sweep up in the rear. im not a fast rider, never use the bike to its ability on dirt and im sure i wont out ride it on the snow either. I just wanna be able to cruise the powder and sidehill with enough speed to enjoy and not feel like its a tractor

I am not a fabricator however many on here are and years back have done exactly what your setting out to do. Getting it done and trustworthy for $800 would be impressive.
Where are you planning to ride it?

Nice project. I build many of my own kits but I wouldn't do it just to save money, it's not worth it. I've seen spring deals for $1200 with a 2.5 track! Keep in mind you NEED a good ski. If you do a custom build do 121 with extensions so if you later find a smaller track with bigger paddles you can swap. Love old 2 strokes but keep in mind snow biking wears stuff out fast parts availability should be considered.

I do enjoy making something special and unique. plus there isn't a complete kit set up for an old bike like mine. What ski would you recommend? and good idea on using 120 rails with extensions. I can't imagine i'd want to go longer, and i can always go shorter.
