1970 Artic Cat 399 Panther Gas Tank

Good luck finding a new one. They are out there but they may be rusty also. Try taking the tank off and put some rocks, nuts, bolts or gravel in the tank and shake it around to break any rust loose. Once that is done flush it with clean hot water or solvent and let it dry. There are products sold that are used to coat the inside or rusty tanks. Go down to your local motorcycle shop and ask what they recommend. When you reinstall the tank then get a large inline filter as additional insurance against getting the carb/carbs dirty.

Go down to the local hardware store, and buy a gallon of Muriatic Acid. you put this in the tank with your nuts/bolts/rocks/whatever, and it literally dissolves rust. Then just make sure you rinse it well. A slight caution, this *will* open up any pinhole cracks that might just be blocked up by rust. In which case, I find the 2-part putty gas tank sealer works pretty darn well.....

Thank you very much. I think that is what I will do.

after you do that. just take it to a local radiater shop and have them coat it with the same stuff they coat the insides of radiaters with. alot cheaper and it lasts forever. thats all i use when restoring all of my vintage sleds. and alays use the fuel filter. install before the fuel pump.[between the tank and pump] should have no problems.
