19/43 Gearing on 08 700 Dragon

Sorry for another gearing post. I searched Increasing you IQ and could not really find an answer.

I just installed 19/43 on my 08 D7 with the stock chain. It fit, but BARELY. There is no bend in the chain, and it seems pretty tight. The tensioner barely fits - it is basically just taking up space as I have it backed off as much as possible since the chain was already so tight. The tensioner is still touching the chain, but it's also tougching the edge of the case on the upper side of the tensioner block. I'm a little nervous about it. Has anyone else run this combo? I don't want to blow up my chaincase!

Thanks and sorry if this info is already out there.

Must have take you quite a while to get it on there....I've done it and it's a PITA! You need to step up one length for the 19/43 (I think it's a 76p) 18/43 will work with the stock chain but 19/43 is just too tight.

It was always my understanding that 19/42 would be the max with the stock chain. It sounds to me like you are flirting with trouble. I would drop down to a 42 and get some slack back in that chain.

Thanks for the input

Chuck, how long have you been running the combo? No issuess at all??

Almost seems like a guy could just take the tensioner block out with this combo? There is no need for more tension, that's for sure. Is this a big risk?

I was going to ride tomorrow and see how it goes, but I absolutely don't want to blow up the chain.

I *could* tear it apart again tonight and take it back down to 19-41 for the ride tomorrow, but would rather spend that time drinking beer instead of wrenching........what do you guys think?

I ran this setup in my wife's 600 all last year with no issues. Chain was really tight and I kinda worried about stress on the chain and bearings but so far everything still seems smooth. I've always felt the straighter the chain the more efficient

I tried the same thing on by 09 rmk 800 but I could not get the chain on, instead I went to 20/45 and a 78 pitch chain it's very close to the same ratio as the 19/43. I also tried the 19/43 with a 78 pitch chain but then the chain is to long. Hope this helps.

Im a believer in dropping down to a 19/46 with the larger 78 p? chain I think it is. The style of riding we do it really gives you more snap and power throughout you lows and mids but your sled looses top speed to around 75-80 or so. just what we do around here.

just buy the 18t top gear and go 18/43 with stock chain you wont regret i have it on my 08 D7 and love it! Its really torquey and responsive!
