New 166 toast in 300 miles??

New 166 on my 04 800 lasted only 300 miles. Clutching seems dialed, it holds 8100/8200 at clicker 3 in all conditions except real heavy spring snow. Had to go to clicker 4 to get close to 8100. (7900-8000 on 4).

Questions
How many miles should I be getting out of a belt? I would think at least 800.

What would cause belt detonation when clutch is holding R's like mentioned? all I can think of is alignment, but I would think if the alignment was off that bad, the sled would not be doing so well holding RPM's?

Try the Ultimax XS belts. They are cheaper and also Ultimax will warranty them if they fail. I went through too many 166 belts so i switched to the Ultimax XS recently. And BTW I am running a polaris primary with lots of venting and My temps have been much lower.

Sounds like heat from spring weather (40 deg plus today) combined with heat from added load (spring slush snow) may be the problem. Vents will be added over the summer and we'll see how the 166 does next yr......

377 does not work well on the Rev chassis (if you can even get it to fit properly). The -288 is the harder compound version of the -166 and is a great belt for the Rev's. I would avoid the aftermarket belts, they are cheaper up front but can cost you big $$ in the long run.
