16 wide under assault?

Hey yalls, Looking at a 09 or so assault, and of course the obvious track change.
im a big guy at 200 pounds, i have little trouble throwing my sled around, i dont want anything longer than 146 and wouldnt mind a extra 1/2 inch on eather side for extra float.
Does the 16 fit?
there is a 16x146x2.5 on tracks USA that has me drooling, i realise i have to change drivers but im allready going to drop a tooth size and go extro
ive heard something about grinding rivits in older sleds, what about the IQ?
currently on a edge 04 RMK with a 144 and realy have little trouble getting where i want to go, god bless momentum.

Thursday we rode with a fat dude on an assault... That poor sumbich was stuck all day. He had a ton of track speed, but the snow had a marginable base and he was chewing right throough it. If you look close, you can see how bad the attack angle is compared to a dragon. I don't know what kind of conditions you ride, but definately take careful consideration before you buy. I would love to have an assault and even considered buying one myself because I love to jump drop off cornaces, but the snow is just to soft for the first few months to tolerate a ditch banger, especially when all of my friends ride 163 dragons. It is hard enough to hang with my 153.

the 16 wide wont fit the raw tunnel..not even close..personally..if I had an assault I would do the 150x2.5 camo xtreme in 3.0 pitch or the 146 camo xtreme2.5 in 2.86 pitch and add a new skid..either a ez ride or a holz alpha x...then to tie it all togeather curt's(fastrax motorsports ) drop and roll to address both tunnel clearence as well as aproach angle...

well not being able to go 16 wide is a bummer, realy that tight?
i was allready planning on going with a new skid, wasnt sure if the drop and roll was realy needed. glad to see aftermarket 146 skids poping up to
well 146x2.5 is still better than 144X2, and with a drop and roll maby add a few more square inches, it all counts.

I think the 2.5 camo under the assault with a good skid and drop and roll will surprise you...

No reason what so ever you cant change the attack angle with the stock skid. Did it on an Assault last year. helped it out ALOT. Drop and roll and an after market skid would work great too with extro's if you have the money.

well said, seems like everyone buys an assault and wants to take it to mountains, where they should have bought a dragon. makes me laugh kinda.. peoples mentality. oh well everyones different. personally love my dragon and i can beat it with the zbroz shocks.. cheaper to throw on walker needles on a dragon then buy a assault and deal with all the other stuff

does anyone on this thread even ride an assault? I have a 2010 and ride all over Alaska. No motor problems, no trenching and i can climb as well as anyone..... sure they have there limits but what sled doesn't. Seems like everyone bashing the new assault has never even ridden one. kinda makes me laugh... just my .02

I have an Assault in the mountains and I get around fine. It has it's issues but so do the Dragons. People with a Dragon complain about soft shock and soft tracks. For some reason it is fine to buy that sled and replace the shocks and the track but if a guy with an Assault replaces his shocks because they are too stiff and replaces his track because it is too stiff, he should have just bought that Dragon. I really don't get that one.:face-icon-small-dis

Now things I have done to help out my Assault:
1. Suck your limiter strap all the way up. I have mine on the 3rd hole, this greatly helps with getting on "plane" and helps eliminate the trenching

2. Learn to use the throttle, full throttle is not always the best idea, feather it and let the track hook up instead of digging.

3. I softened up all of my shocks and bull springs as low as they will go. Granted I weigh 175 lbs naked right now, so if you are a larger guy you might not need to go that far, but they should still be on the low end.

Sucking up the limiter strap helped a TON!!! SERIOUSLY.

My plans for the sled:

-I'm going to talk to Carls about the re-valve they do this summer. I would like to lighten up the shocks. I think they are too stiff in their lightest setting for the deap powder days. I can get my sled to move around fine but I hopped on a Dragon and liked the softness when carving. I am hoping Carls can lighten these shocks up. Getting them in their softest setting to where the Dragon shocks are would be nice. Each turn is 40 lbs, that would allow plenty of adjustment for the spring riding

-My other idea is to get a 155 5.1 track for the winter deep powder. I am hoping I can get one for a decent price from a Dragon owner that is going to the CE. I still plan on using the 146 in the early and late season.
I have "heard" I can do rail extension and no tunnel extension, anyone know for sure?

I own an 09 Assault with 2.5 camo ext, mountain tamer skid, fox 2's on the front, with a drop and roll. Rode in 4-5 ft fresh and it did as well as could be expected. Of course a 155-163 would have done much better in those conditions, and if you ride those conditions everyday, your a lucky dude, and should get a 155 or greater. But in most everyday snow conditions, the 2.5 camo 146 on the assault does fine! I loved everything about the set up of my sled!
