16" wide track + stock Nytro tunnel

Who has first hand experience with this? Whats it take? I hear/read that its "tight" but wondering what exactly tight means.

Does grinding brackets/rivets n such need to be done to accomplish a smooth fit?

I really liked the 16 wide for traction/flotation on my Rev, if I'm spending 600+ for a new track. I'd rather get the one I want and do it once, than not be happy w/ the 15 and have to go through it again for a 16.. :P

Do the stock drivers on the Nytro allow for a 2.5" lug? Are they 9 tooth?

there is about a 1/4 inch of clearance if that & there is three nuts that you have to grind down that are riveted to the inside of the tunnel + you need a new set of drop brackets.

Thanks, I'll have a Mtn Tamer skid (which comes w/ their drop brackets)

I'll have to look closer. Thanks for the info. Doesn't sound too bad...

Also, while on this topic, could I just go to a 8" wheel kit/axle and get by w/o extensions to run a 156 track, its only 1.5" of slack to make up for?

Are there issues w/ tunnel clearance w/ 8" wheels and 2.5" tracks?

I think that you will have to go with an offset axle, but should not be a tunnel issue...

156 X 16 wide 2 1/2 track fits great with timbersled drop brackets & 8 inch wheels,There is plenty of adjustment for this. They are 7 tooth drivers stock 3.0 pitch.Pull the bolts out of the three nuts on each side & loctite them,Put them back in then grind the end of the bolt & nut together about 1/8 " off each nut, This grinds off the nylock retaining material.(Hence using the loctite)There are a few rivets that hit the side lugs too. Before you start Ziptie a 16 inch 2 X 2 to the top of your track making sure it is centered,Rotate the track from back to front & you will see all rivets & bolts that need clearancing.

yep the 156 will fit with an offset axle but dont waste youre money on the axle . get a set of ice age rails there the same price and are strait instead of being bent up like the stockers . it makes a huge diffrence in keeping the front end down , plus you can get them cut to run what ever size of wheel you want to run .

Great, good info. I'll look into that option. Thanks.

Hey vipertonytro
How much clearance do you have between the tips of the 2.5" lugs and the front heat exchanger?

There is about 1/4 to 3/8 at the front of the cooler. I just finished installing a 16 x 162 x 2.5 and it is tight. We had to knock quite a few nails out of the rivets, grind a few bolts and 4 nuts inside the tunell. The rear drop brackets were also changed and there is less than 1/8 inch clearance.

Thanks, USE2BDOO. Looks like a 2.31 track with 8 tooth 2.86 drivers would be cutting it really close.
A 2.250 track with 9 tooth 2.52 drivers might work. It calculates out to about the same height, as a 2.500 track 7 tooth 3 pitch combo.
I would perfer to stay with larger drivers, for improved angle of attack.
May just end up going with a 2" camo, on the XTX. Then have plenty of room for snow evacuation.
