16 timbersled set up recomendations???

16 timbersled on my 16 sxf450. On packed snow ski is very darty and very hard to ride. Powder is fine but traveling on packed trail is a handfull! Any recomendations on helping this or is it normal handling charictaristic for a snowbike?

sounds fairly normal. You might look at the shocks to see it the previous owner messed with then. But seems to me if you lengthen the front and shorten the back it reduces ski pressure some. Probably should confirm that. My other solution is maybe buy the 18' ski.

If you haven't yet do a search, the ski issue is a pretty common topic, a lot of the info is personal preferences and riding style so you need to see what works for you. Seems like every ski has its plusses and minuses depending on conditions, they are all a compromise. That said IMO the old TS ski is the worst of the three I own, Yeti, Camso and old TS .

SNO DARTIN

COUPLE OF THINGS TO CHECK ON YOUR TS SKI

if you have the half pipe type of skeg in the center of the ski, hard snow, ice , pavement, they dart and and twitch and basiclly are second class steering units/skis

better is to install the three carbide rail center skeg sold and advertised on this forum, works much better

when your bike is sitting on a flat concrete floor, take a rafter square and with short side on the floor the the exposed edge on the square centered on the bolt that hold the ski on, the rafter edge should be 2-3" behind the front axle bolt, and It won't be on your KTM, but needs to be............this makes a lot of difference in the ski tracking straight and not darting. To fix this you either drill new holes in the ears of the ski pedestal and swing the ski back, or many have have good luck redrilling the bolt holes in the cnc machined block that hold the ski to the spindle, move the block back

this ski moved back is the biggest difference you can make to this TS ski to improve ride and handling.

when you have done both of these mods, the new ARO ski will still work way better..........$500 ?

if you live in Missoula Mt you can stop by and try any one of the three skis with these mods in the shop that are sitting idle and prove to yourself these are improvements possible.

pictures

some pictures from threads a couple of years ago when this was batted around.

steeper the fork rake the better TS spindles work ( kx, yz, sx etc) 1.5-2.00 inches set back

more fork rake the futher back you need your ski bolt( WR, xcw, exc, enduro bikes )2.0-3.0 set back

picture with the orange hammer in it is an xcw moved back to 3" when we tested several setting 2.5 " back seemed to be about the best

second picture is a stock suziki if I rememberr that had the bolt infront of the fork axle and was almost unridable in that position.

pictures of how you have to redrill the holes in the spindle ears, we had to weld more aluminum onto the back of the spindle to allow room for the proper holes to be drilled. big improvement on the steering though.

Did up an aro spindle last night, after seeing this thread we decided to check my friend with a 500 xcw numbers, sure enough ski bolt was even or even slightly ahead, he made little ear extensions, and had me weld them to get it back to about 2.5" setback since it's an xcw with super raked out forks. He had previously said something seemed "wrong" about his frontend. Next ride out we will see if it's better

This is one of those things about snow bike kits that drive me nuts. So here you have laid out huge dough for a kit brand A,B or C to go on bike brand X,Y or Z and you have to weld and drill and hack on the spindle to make it work right, I mean really? Don't they test these things on anything other than an SXF or YZ. Make the fawkin thing adjustable. Its not rocket science. Same goes with storage boxes, gas containers etc. Camso has nothing don't they think people need to pack some gas? I wish they would get their $hit together, honestly.

Agreed!! Although there is domething sickly fun about seeing that orange powder coat bubble (being that it's not mine). It's ridiculous snd a pain in the azz for sure! Maybe tgey could do a promo if u snowcheck they throw in a free tig welder and the first gas bottle is included!
