16 Proclimb 153 vs 16 Axys 156 weighed

So weighed my 16 cat 153 and 16 axys 155 (really a 156). Both 3".

The cat has a diamond S quiet can, skinny boards, skinz windshield bag, no hood foam, tether, extra cross shaft in skid, gripper skis, no idler wheels, steel bottom gear in chaincase (stock is aluminum). Full fluids but only have 3/4 tank full of oil. Mostly since I have never filled it all the way full of oil on 3 proclimbs.

The axys 3" w chaincase is full of fluids. Stock can, clicker shocks, extra cross shaft in skid (same as cat), tunnel bag, under seat bag and windshield bag. 37.5" kmod a arms, which are 1.2lbs heavier than stock. Poo extreme front and rear bumpers. Tether, no hood foam removed. No can or pulling hood foam on my axys cause of motor warranty issues Ive had in the past with Poo

Both sleds have muff pots, and spare belts. 2.6 snow flap on my axys instead of the 3" flap. No flap on the Cat since it's not needed with the short cooler. No tools on sleds. Weighed both sleds with all my tools and survival gear and I carry around 10-13lbs extra.

Scale was zero'd out after I put on the straps. Really did this test for me to know weight between both my sleds, and how I set them up and carry gear.

Pretty impressed how close my Cat was in weight. After riding my 16 PC yesterday and really being able to ride it like mid season, Im very impressed with it. Way better than my modded 15 and 14. Loving the new front end and Toms shock valving, along with the BM fab skinny boards and panels. The axys is a blast to ride too, but I was that impressed with how I had my 16 cat set up yesterday. I have no brand loyalty. Both should be very good competitors on the snow.

12.8lbs difference between the two

CO 2.0, your 2016 had a aluminum lower sproket? Mine was a steel sproket when took it apart to do the belt drive. I had a sno pro 2.6 sled. Wonder if they put aluminum in the Ltd sleds.

Must be. Aluminum is noticeably lighter than the steel gear. I geared it up to 21-49 (7 tooth) and manual tensioner on stock chain

So about 30 lbs difference when adjusted for the can. Kind of sucks not being able to put on a can cause of warranty. Is that common with Poo or what? Looks like they might have issues with their a-arms too. I like light but not to the detriment of strength.

Thanks for the info. I'm the furthest thing from a Poo fan but that picture is pretty impressive on how level the Axys is hanging. Pretty dang good weight distribution.

Once I get a few hundred miles on the stock can I might buy a Ti can for it, and if/when I need to take it in for a motor warranty, I'll just throw the stock can back on. I had a 3rd motor warranty denied on my 09 D8 back in '10 cause I removed the hood foam and put heat tape everywhere instead. Without any evidence or reason Polaris denied my warranty, since they said I must have had a pipe on it cause there was heat tape in place of the foam. Ever since then I've been very cautious on Polaris' warranty system. Never had an issue with Cat warranties with no hood foam and a can. Even Michelle at OTS told me I better run Polaris gold oil in the axys. She said Polaris will give any reason to deny a warranty claim, even with different oil and the Mag Moss act. Will just say the oil didn't meet Poo specifications. Between my 09 D8 and 12 Pro I went through 5 motors in 2600 miles. Hope this new one holds up longer.

As far as strength, that's why I ditched the stock arms, and put bumpers front and rear on the axys. Cat's stock stuff is strong enough.

Will be interested to here an in-depth comparison as you get more miles on both sleds.

I have 3 full days on both so far. The axys engine has great mid range, and great top end. Way better than that POS Pro motor, which I blew 2 of in 1100 miles. But at the end of the day my 16 Cat 3" still feels more powerful on the top end. Feels like it has a tad more torque. It is geared up though to 21/49, but the final gearing is now about the same as the 3" axys. With only $1500 in mods on my 16 Cat, it does everything my Axys can do in technical terrain so far, and comes within 13lbs of it. Well 9.5lbs now that I put zbroz shocks on my axys since I didn't like the clickers. I am very impressed with both sleds. Pick your poison, but I'm glad I bought both.

Only thing I haven't gotten a real good comparison on are super steep sidehills. Snow conditions haven't allowed for it yet.

Great post keep this one alive, I was torn between the Poo and Cat, ended up with the 16 ltd Cat. Just couldn't leave the 800HO I love this power plant you can mod it, beat it and it loves it! I'm hopeful cat has the rest worked out as I'm the proud owner of a heavily modded 12 chassis

Did you puke in your mouth a little when you signed off on that axys this year?

I know I would have. Especially if they acted like that over taking some foam out of the hood. That would have been a hard sell.

Haha yeah I sucked it up since I got the 4 year warranty. I left my 12 pro completely stock under the hood for a reason. Got both motors warrantied. I would/did not own a polaris since the edge if I didnt have another sled to ride.

poster child statement for poo of the year.
they all have their weak sides I just can't get past poos 800 so i stick with the cat h.o. to get me home.
I too have not owned a poo since the edge as i have had to buy the 800 pos then too many times.

Anymore thoughts between the two? I've been on Polaris for a bit now but have been impressed with the 16 cats I've been around. If I got an Axys it would have the 2.6 and belt drive so I guess it would have more of a weight difference between them, but not a terrible amount. Cost looks about a wash by the time you put shocks on the Axys or lighten up the Cat. Longer warranty on the Polaris is nice though, Cat's just have a 1 or 2 year correct? Seems like either are a good option for my riding style.
