15lbs @ 6k feet

50/50 av/110, 25 degrees, fresh air intake, 2876, 12.1 afr. I am switching to straight 110 and am going to try 2 degrees timing retard at 15-16 and call it good....I think I can stop there. There really is a pest called the turbo bug.

I am running 14lbs at 50/50 91/110 in my Pro rmk kits with no timing retard 2871 oilless at 6200ft 12.7 afr no intercooler Runs great. Ya Let us know how that works

How long of pulls? What head?

Eli, curious of what the verdict is on the 2876 compared to the 2860? Did you get the throttle response figured out? Do you think you have better or the same lag of the 2860? Thanks

Dustin

I put the bov back on and have everything back and more. More power everywhere, better response, too. When I am in the "meat" of the power, I can let clear off and the response is instant. I have a spring in the Tial bov that is actually open at idle, but I still get instant in out out of the throttle response on the hill. I am very glad I did the 2876 now. I wouldn't be playing at these boost levels with the 2860 and no intercooler. (lower charge temps)(not measuring them, btw)

BTW, have forged pistons which are a bit more resilient to detonation at higher boost levels.

Whats your reasoning? Do you feel you where getting close to det or are you just wanting to bump it up another pound from 15 to 16? How much will these heads take before they start lifting do you think?

Cool thanks. I am glad the pistons are working out! I also switched to wisecos this year but have not ran it yet. Last year I ran it up to 12 lbs on 50 av/ 50 91. I want to try 14 but think I need more av. I am at 9,000' and run the mini-intercooler.

I would ideally like to get 18lbs on straight 110. I don't think I was close to deto, and as long as I stay out of deto, I don't think I have to worry about the head. My DET sensor caught a lean condition last year because of fuel tank pickups. I have been told that the forged pistons won't explode under slight deto at boost levels above 16 lbs like cast pistons can. The forged pistons will just erode the edge till they stick the ring or burn thru under the ring. I am a little excited to say the least. 15lbs at 6k feet is nice!

I am running the stock head with the spark plug boss removed-plugs spaced up so they don't stick down in the dome. Also running the Doo ecs plugs which are more recessed. My squish is .065" after the fix kit and I think in the 125lb range for compression-need to recheck the compression after break-in. Oh yeah, broke the pistons in at 10lbs for about 45 miles and and now I am starting the beating!

On Sat . I ran 14lbs with 100LL17%91 5000-8000' 2011 kit with cold air intake . No det, no timing mod . huge Difference with cold air intake :face-icon-small-hap

need more snow !

nope . mix 17% 91 oct with 100LL . aprox 4ltrs of 91 oct with 19.5ltrs of 100LL .
Oh...liters, that make more sense how you came up with 17%. That's pretty impressive. Do you happen to know what your charge temps where? Thanks

No . But after 4 pulls charge box was warm to the hand . Definatly not hot with cold air intake . I would not run that much boost below 5 or 6 thousand feet.

I am trying to decide if I can get away with 14 lbs at 9000' on 50% to 50% avgas to 91. I don't have cold air intake but I do have an intercooler. I think I will need a little more avgas. "Why not run straight AVGAS" you say? I never thought I would say this but when I got up around 9000' feet it idled ruff and throttle response seemed to be sluggish. I have the low comp head so I think at 9000' feet I should be fine. Wondering how good the det sensor works and if you can rely on them or not? (I am running the jan 08 flash)
