159 to 144

Would I need a new skid to change from a 159 to 144 ? For the riding that I do, riding a Switchback compared to my RMK is huge. The 159 is just so damed long and awkward on tight trails. It needs a new track anywas so figures a 144 2" would be ideal.

you will need shorter rails, through yours up for sale in the swapmeet, lots of people would be interested in bet..

you will also need to move your upper bolt on your rear torque arm into the fwd hole (by the upper bogie wheel).

i think the front torque arm is shorter too? i would compare p/n's first.

Yeah - Guidoexpress is correct. And the front torque arm is the same so its just the rails and that one mounting location that is different. I am actually looking at doing the opposite. I have a 144 S/B and looking to extend it this summer to a 159 or maybe even longer. Interested in possibly a trade? I had the rails in my skid powder coated gloss black so they have held up well to the elements. Let me know what you think.

Your tunnel is also going to be sticking WAY out... Not sure how that is gonna work-out since your rear axle will be roughly 7" farther forward than it is now. Going through any ditches/gullies could become an issue.

SawZall perhaps? Look through the swap! Heck there's a trade one post up!
Can probably swap tunnel extensions also.

Nope, the differences go beyond the extension. The main part of the tunnel is quite different between the long IQ's (159/166) and the short (144/151). I think to shorten your 159 tunnel it would be a bit of a custom job.
I recently looked into swapping 166 parts onto my 144 and nothing lines up. The foot boards go much further back and partly because of this the coolant rails are longer and hook up to the heat exchanger in a different spot.

Here's the quick comparison I made when I was attempting to get my head around this

And HERE is the thread where a few of us discussed it

Guess it wont be so easy. I also have a 166 skid to sell or trade for a 144. I plan on changng the rear bumper so a tunnel mod isnt out of the question so it doest look retarded. Coolant lines and cooler could be another story. Better think this one through:face-icon-small-con

Again for what the amount of work and bs its going to take are there any other options? Maybe change out the shocks to some Floats and switch the carbides to bite bette

Yes - Danbot is correct. I did some additional research on this and the tunnel extension is longer (obviously) on the RMK along with the gripper/cooler rails along the footwell. However, the main tunnel itself (from the bulkhead back to where the extension is attached) is the same on the 166 vs the 144. The part numbers are the same. They use the same rear heat exchanger in the two as well. So the angle of the footwells and the cooler rails are the same on both - there is a just a different mounting bracket (and location) in the back for those cooler rails. Thus making the mounting points for the rear skid the same with the only difference being the two holes in the rear mounting plate.

This summer I am looking to extend my 144 to a longer track and thus the reason I am interested in this as well. I want to install a Pro-RMK lightweight skid in this sled. Working on the details of it right now. I will keep everyone posted on issues I come across.

Same here, I want to have a 166 or 163 under my Switch next season.

Oh yeah. I suppose I should fill everyone in on the first priority...........

Get all the small pieces of piston skirt that fell of the recoil side crankcase, check runout on crank, order a new cylinders, pistons, bearings, o-rings, and a head.:scared:

I'm sure there are a few other things too..... Ahhhhh, compfusion motor mounts, rider select delete, tps calibrate, get the injectors checked, replace oil cable, install SLP pipe, replace fuel filter, rad delete, and replace recoil rope.

Then theres the suspension, track , bumper and seat.

I will never learn that there is a GOOD DEAL
