loking at buying 155 pro 800 for my son.what do you guysvs think about the climbing ability of 163 w/tipped rails. i'm really torn about this.track speed and straight rails of the 155 vs the length of the 163. any thoughts thanks in advance

I ride a 155 and weigh 160. I have spent time riding both 163 and 155. I can ride both equally well but prefer the 155 in most situations. I like the way the 155 carves better when I lay it on it's side and is easier for me to handle. The only time I wish for the 163 is when I am lost in a jungle of tight trees moving real slow, looking for a way out. The 163 will float a little better in that situation. If I have to almost stop going up hill, the 163 will keep moving a little better than the 155. Keep a little speed and they both work equally well. If I weighed closer to 200, I would be riding the 163. In the deep snow, I don't think the tipped rails make much difference.

My riding buddy has a 163 with tipped rails. It is really hard on HiFax. The center of them seem to wear out and leave both ends. My 155 has yet to show any signs of wear. We both ride the same trails and same miles with scratchers down at the same times. He is on his second HiFax and they are almost gone, mine still look new.

I guess it would kind of depend on what type of rider your son is and his size. Personally, I went with the 163 even though I am 160lbs just due to the fact that I can go a little slower. I have only been riding for three years and lack the skills to keep my momentum up in all conditions, so the longer track gives me a little more confidence. After riding a friend's 155, I do notice a difference when doing downhill U-turns, but with some technique adjustment (mostly foot placement on the boards) the difference is negligible.

That's my opinion. Either way, you can't go wrong with a Pro. He'll be happy with either one!

Have fun!

My 2011 with the tipped rails has worked fine the last 2.5 seasons....there won't be a massive difference in climbing ability between 155/163 length regardless of straight or tipped rails.

I would say in general that a bigger guy may like the longer track more and vice versa for smaller....if we are talking strictly deep snow riding and you are looking for a general/stereotypical opinion.
