155 or 163 for a bigger person?

I'm a bigger person, 6'6" 240 before I get all dressed up and ready to ride. Wondering if a 163 would be better than a 155. Mostly boondock, ride trees occasionally, rarely climb.

Coming off an m7 153 and looking at maybe trying out a pro. Can't afford new sleds every year so I want to try and make the right choice since I'll have it for the next forever....

What's everyone think? 155 or 163???
 
I have always been a shorter is better person, but last year I bought a 163" and couldn't be happier. If your snow is harder or wetter then a 155" would be fine, but for me in Canada the 163" is a lot nicer in the poweder and still easy as ever to toss around the trees. The pros relly are easy to throw around. I am 6'3" and 255lbs for the record.
 
I had an '09 m8 153 and moved up to a pro 163. Even with the extra track length the pro is much easier to throw around. I'm 6'6" 200 lbs before gearing up. IMHO the 155 pro would be much more capable than the 153 cat. If the cat never left you wishing for more track get a 155, if you ever wished you had more go for the 163. I LOVE my 163, but I'm not a pro level rider and appreciate the extra track to help me keep going when I run out of talent:face-icon-small-hap
 
had a 155 on the pro and changed to a 163 and couldnt be happier. way more floatation at lower speeds.i wont get another sled without atleast a 163. fyi im 6'1" 245 naked
 
Either one works well. Id like to have a 156x3. Think that would be the perfect track. Im 6'1" 245. I Prefer the 163. 155 is fun to tool around on but the 163 performs better in the deep
 
163 all the way. The way I see it, if your a smaller guy, 150-180, do the 155. I'm 240 and the last couple sleds I've had were 159 and163. Got a '13 163 coming. I'll never buy anything smaller than that. I think the maneuverability is just as good, but has better location for your body weight (less getting stuck). Get the 163, you will love it
 
I think you're better off having your shocks redone for your height and weight. There is only 3.5" of difference on the ground between the two tracks, thats why so many people can ride both and not tell the difference.

I'm 6-6 and 295 and I like the 163 a lot better. I have an Edge with a 162/it cam with a 159 when I bought it new. I personally like the bigger foot print plus for bigger guys the longer track seems smoother & has more floatation. What I found out test riding a 13 demo that the seat is way too short for me.So I'm looking around to find out what options are out there. Just my 2 cents on the subject.:usa2:
 
I'm 6'5 270 with a pro 155, coming off a 166 somedays i'm wishing for the longer track but just makes me ride smarter.:crutch:
 
2 season ago I did a Dan Adams clinic. Liked the Pro so I asked Dan a ton of questions including track length. He rides a 163 and recommends that track length to EVERYONE who asks. He is not a big guy either. So for the school sleds he gets 163s. I know he has other Pro sleds too and will prolly have a 155 or two for people to ride and compare. I am a little over 6'4" and 225-230lbs and I really like the 163 I bought. I don't think there is a downside. If you do change your mind after purchase it is very easy to find someone to swap a 163 for a 155 but not the other way.
 
163 With BIGGER wheels = shorter feel

Last year I put an Ice Age 9" big wheel kit with their rails on my 155 demo. It made it feel like a 144. I wanted to give it a little more clutch because of all the lack of resistance on the track. It would tack 8350+ no problem. And hold in any snow. So . . . . this year I'm getting a 163 for my demo and putting the 9" kit and rails on it. I may go ahead and play with the clutching also, might be the perfect thing for some of you guys on the fence. If you do the math on the circumference on a 7 inch wheel vs. a 9" wheel your looking at a little over 6 1/4". Not to say that your reducing the footprint by that much but you are shrinking it a little, prob about 2"? And the decrease in rolling resistance is going to be substantial enough to make it feel a lot more like a 155, but still have the not get stuck characteristics of the 163. Also my demo will be for sale, FYI :face-icon-small-coo
 
I have asked this question alot and the general consensus that I get is.

People with 155 had wished at one time or another that they had the 163.

People with a 163 have never wished that they had a 155 for something.

So.....get a 163 and be happy!

FYI, I have a 155 Pro and will be installing a 163 Camo Extreme 2.5 for this year (with a C3 extended belt drive).
 
I would agree with most people here too. I sometimes wish I had a 163, but I really love the playfulness of the 155. I have rode a straight rail 163 pro and I didn't like the planted front end feeling. I really enjoy being able to transfer my body weight and pick the front end up at my leisure with the 155. The 163 just felt a little boring... Maybe a 163 with 9" wheel kit like owenbstory said or a tipped up rail 163 would be a little funner. Though, I might be changing my story after I add this turbo on my sled :)... BTW I am 6'3" 205lb.
 
I am going to a 163 on my assault this year just for the added flotation . Two friends went and demoed the pros the each bought a 163. When I asked why they both replied it gives us older guys that 1 or 2 sec longer to figure out what we need to do .
 
I'm with you on the older guy thing. I'm 64 and started riding in 1965. Seen a lot of changes in all those years. I can't stand up all day like the younger guys can. Need to set my butt down more often then not.
 
I am 5-8 160 pds, I ride a 163, what i have found riding both in same conditions same day..the 155 feels more playful, but the 163 sled works much better sidehilling. on the days you have a good base, the 155 is equal as far as climbing ability, but on the deep days..the 163 kills the 155, you can poke along on the 163 where you have to be moving on the 155to keep going,same when it gets steep, with the 163 when you run out of momentum you just turn it sideways on the hill, pick up speed and crank it back up, the 155 doesnt want to crank back up when its deep...same in the trees, you have to carry more speed with the 155 to go where the 163 can just poke along....
 
I have two pros....one 155" and one 163" there is a difference in the manuverability....if your a lazy sit on your but rider the 163 will be HARDER to get around in the trees...if you dont ride much trees then you really will not notice the difference. only time you will notice big difference is when snow is light and fluffy...once it gets set up they both float about the same
