150 to 160 hp Nytro?

How hard can this be for Yamaha? I really don't want to add SC or turbo. Adding the Aaen exhaust and Power Commander gets you right in the middle. But, it's pretty spendy as well. Lots of other products out there as well. Anyone gotten to these numbers another way? Cheaper perhaps?
 
I think its just a frustrating reality. There is no really cheap way around it.
If the exhaust and programmer does help, then spend the money. That stuff doesn't cost much.

You also should consider the clutching. You want maximum efficient operation for your HP, and total rider/sled weight. Of course riding conditions too.

Also, a cheap and easy way to improve your power to weight ratio is too lose weight on your sled and yourself----if necessary.

Lightweight battery
get rid of the stock exhaust
Lightweight seat
drop down brackets
Lightweight suspension
Radiator delete

the push turbo kit is $3000 and you will be at 198hp. it doesen't get much cheaper than that for a legit 65-70 hp gain. This kit runs incredibly well. i have installed many of these kits and people have been VERY happy with the way they run.

you can easily spend over a grand or two on exhaust, fuel controllers, etc and you will be lucky to gain 10hp.

no cheap way to go if you want 150-160 hp N/A, exhaust, airbox, fuel controler is the cheapest to get to around 150hp after that you would need porting/polishing, and cam work to get in the 160hp range, for the price of doing that, a 180+hp turbo kit would be about the same price as doing just that motor work
 
Yep a guy can spend money on lite weight parts and n/a performance which all totals up to the same cost as a really nice turbo kit.

hey there i puchased a push kit for low elevation 1500ft wondering if there is any mods your doing to get them to run right our dealer could not get theres to run right im reading alot of good reviews maybe its there mechanic also wondering if anyone has any clutching recomendations its on an xtx stock gearing 1.75 backcountry track any info appreciated thx!!:rockon:
 
Hurricane performance sells a kit for $1400 which includes a full Hindle exhaust, his airbox mod and a PC5..gains are 18.5 HP...this kit works well, I've tested it for 2 seasons and it worked flawlessly!
 
Thanks for the input. I am wishing I had jumped on a Push kit last spring as they were quite reasonable. I am going to look at the Hurricane kit. I am pretty sure that 150 would work for me. I still have a stock to +5 hp RX-1 and I enjoy climbing places the Nytro just can't make.
 
Just remember that the 18hp kit from hurricane is at sea level. In idaho around 1000ft theres probaly a 10hp gain.
The 45hp gain at 10,000 ft from the turbo is still a 45 hp gain.
 
the 18hp number is a stretch for this kit to say the least, especially at altitude. Yamaha did not leave this much HP on the table. these engines need some backpressure to make power and opening the exhaust up does not help. You may see some small gains on the top end but you will lose power on the bottom and mid range. if you don't believe it look at the EXUP system on the new Apex. its a butterfly valve in the header that is constantly adjusting exhaust backpressure.

The 18hp gain is not a stretch...it is a fact, backed up by my sled that made a few hp less due to the fact that I run a noise reducer. A well tuned exhaust system will not lose anything down low or very little, but may require intake mods to help out...in the Nytros case it does require an airbox mod...I agree altitude will not help and a turbo is probably your best bet...but for someone who wants to stay NA...this is the best option...probably the only option. Hindle has been eliminating EXUP since Yamaha introduced it...haven't had any loses, that is due to proper design and many years of experience. Here is the dyno graph to prove the gains on the Nytro....it was done in October uring warm weather. Clearly Yamaha left 18.6 hp on the table!
