15 Terrain Dominator 163

Hello

Brand new to sledding, and bought a 2015 163 TD. Looking for the upgrades that need to be done right out of the box. I have searched and only found 1 thing, rubber straps for the side panels. Any input would be great. Not looking to change anything in the motor as I have a 3 yr warranty.

I have the identical sled and installed a Kurts performance gear down kit and also their clutch kit and it works really well and the clutch belt now runs cooler which is a good thing. Venting is also a very good thing to do, I removed the tool kit from behind the secondary clutch as there are holes there and then added venting to cowl where your knees like to hit once and awhile. After all that I then went with a SLP pipe and PC5 fuel box, the new Vforce 3r reeds , bikeman air box mod and SLP intake kit. The sled is a rocket with incredible mid range pull
 
Raptor duel rate coil springs a 2.5 camoplate extrem track ans a TKI gear down i went with the 2.42 ration but i dont ride any open area just boo docking hope this helps o and check your bolts on your rear bumper they are two long and will rip the outside lugs off on your track just a FYI
 
Nothing really. Just ride it. You bought an exceptional sled as your first one. There is a new recall for the lower bolt on the quick drive, so make sure that has been done.

Don't drop a bunch of cash on mods until you know what you need. Sure you can re gear it and clutch it and all sorts of mods but its a pretty darn good sled out of the crate.

Learn how to maintain it like adjusting the belt, grease the zerks in the skid, read the manual, adjust the suspension for your weight.

^ agreed that sled needs nothing for a new rider other than some hours put on it. Make sure the bars are at a comfy height, adjust the suspension for your weight, put a tether on it, make sure clutches are clean and belt in good condition, and go riding. Very capable sled that few can ride to it's potential.

Congrats on the new sled and welcome to sledding.

The above suggestions are good but might not be appreciated by a brand new rider.

I would change front and rear bumpers and spend the rest of th upgrade money on fuel, Avalanche gear and riding clinics.

That sled is far more capable than ANY new (and most experienced) riders.

Have fun and go ride that sled. The best "upgrade" is more riding time.
 
Learn to ride it before you mod it.


That will teach you what mods you might consider.
 
Just got my recall from Polaris for my 2015. Another so called issue with the lower quickdrive bolt. They say corrosion in the shaft but the real problem IMO is that some shaft splines are too sloppy,

Replace that bolt with a 12.9 hard bolt ASAP and at the same time check to see if you got a tight one or sloppy one. If it is sloppy, get it warrantied or use Loctite 660 on the splines.

We have seen lots of lower gears fall off the 15's and then you have no brakes.
 
IMO the Pros don't need any extra hold downs for the hood/panels. First sled I've not put extra hood straps on in a long time and have rolled it a few times without issue. Although it hasn't gone for a barrel roll down the hill yet so I may be talking out my a....
Also my '12 Pro is the first sled that was clutched right, out of the box. Haven't touched the clutching, alignment etc at all. Original belt in good shape at 600mi.

If you're new to snomobiling, that sled will give you wood then wet your pants.....without mods!

Oh, I would run some premix in the first tank or 2 and check your oil consumption. IDK if that's still an issue on the '15 models but mine was running around 60:1 before I adjusted the oil pump up. This is worth your time checking imo. And warm it up to at least 100deg before taking off.
 
FREE MOD Turn your oiler up to 40:1 (= a bit more than a Qt/tank)

Drain your oil reservoir and with sled on level ground refill it a pint at a time and mark your oil level at each pint. This gives you a pretty accurate real-world gauge of your consumption.

ALWAYS warm the sled up fully (*125) before riding.

ADD scratchers if they're not already installed.

GOOD GAS run the best gas you can find. Add race gas or a quality boost to get to 91-92 octane
 
This is a loaded question but here are my basic musts. You have good advice so far.

1) Insurance. Not so much for you or your sled but your buddies although sled theft can be a problem is certain areas.

2) FTX Polaris ProTector kit from Fastrax. This will save you from thousands of dollars in costly repairs to your tunnel if your ski tags a stump, rock, railroad, etc. Will not void your warranty because there is no warranty for this. Many have wrinkled tunnels.

3) Agree with Murph...Bumpers front and rear. Holz has an insert for the rear carbon fiber thats cheap and I like Van Amburg's front bumper. Ghost ridden sleds seem to aim for trees.

4) POLARIS PRO BELT GUARD for the Quickdrive belt and pulley. Protects the lower sprocket and belt which often high centers on the ramp and rubs when loading or unloading sleds.

5) Mike Taylor's Footwell vents. This keeps snow out of the clutch and Quickdrive areas. You can PM here on Snowest. Link below

If you want the absolute best from your stock shocks, then Holz or Carls Cycle can revalve them and use much better oil and they will perform MUCH BETTER!!!
 
after clutching and hood straps.... just ordered a set myself about 30 min ago....nothing other than a muff pot, if you need a-arms in the future id get zboz or alternative impact if you trash the stock.....and if you want Horse power dont waste time with SLP or bikeman get a Silber turbo and have a true pull and go sled i have a kit on my 12 and now a kit on my 15 my 15 kit is light-years ahead of my 12 kit in the terms of everything 7 pounds on a 15 kit feels like 12 on my 12 kits with race gas.....SO if you need HP look no further than Silber...other than that just clutch it and pin it.
 
I'm sure glad I got the Wasatch hood straps to replace the Dzuz fasteners. BEST move I made in that respect.

I agree the dzus fasteners are a pain. Mine all line up good still so not a problem...yet, but one was impossible to use when I dented the bumper and tweaked the front end slightly.
Have yours come apart in a rollover or just don't like them?
 
Anyone have any in put on this sled 2015 terrain dominator 163, as far as shock and spring setup it has walker evans clickers on it .....and thoughts on sway bar removal
 
I run the front springs as soft as they can go without falling off. Clickers just a couple clicks up from full soft. Swaybar still in, but you could take it out and there is plenty of adjustment in the front shocks to account for that (you'll want to be a bit stiffer with it out). I figure the sled can do what I want with the swaybar, so just never messed with it.

Rear track spring set for weight, and clicker about 1/2 way through adjustment. Front track spring has about 3/4" of threads showing. Pretty happy with all this. The shocks are relatively stiff...so setting the clickers anywhere near full hard makes it ride terribly IMO
