144 vs 151

Hey guys, is there a huge difference between a 144 and a 151" track?

Im gonna be riding in the mountains a few times a year and i live near the b.c pine pass.

Oh and the sled it would be on is a 2001-2002 summit 700

and im 5"10 200lbs.

for your size go with the 151, they arent much different at all, but the 151 will float you a little better and you will have no problem throwing it over.

You've got height and weight on me and I went from a 144 to a 153 no problem. I was skeptical at first but once I rode the 153 for a full day there was no turning back. Feels the same in most all riding conditions except you get a little higher on the hill :beer;

Go for the longer track, the only time you will notice a difference is when you need it

I'm about your same size and my last sled was a 2000 700 himark.
I thought the thing was going to be like driving a school bus but the length never felt too much longer than the 136" I just got rid of.
In 2000 Doo was the first (I think) to go that long and it was feared that it would make boondocking in the tight trees difficult. It never was.

My Highmark was pumped up a bit and geared down for the track though. That's something you will have to change when you go from a 144" to the 151incher.

Dial it in and you'll love it. Try getting a hold of the wider REV track though. It's an inch wider so you get even MORE flotation without having to go longer.

You could also go to the wider Doo 144" by changing out a couple rivets in the tunnel for clearance and a small modification around your rear drop brackets then you won't need to add the rail and tunnel extentions. It's a bolt on change-over (For the most part) and you'll gain the same track surface and floatation as the 151 standard width.

It's something to mull over anyways.
I'm guessing you'll have an easier time finding a good 144 X 2" X 16 for a reasonable price too.
