14'+ YZ Big Bore Options?

Who has a big bore on your 14+ YZ? What size? How's it working? Can you pull a gear higher everywhere? Just trying to see what's out there and how it's working in the snow for you?

Buddy of mine big bored his WR, wasn't worth the trouble wore out super fast, he went back to stock, I big bored my KTM from 450 to 520 and I wouldn't waste my time doing it again.

I'm surprised to hear you say this on the 520. I have several friends that did the 520 and love it. They are pulling a gear higher everywhere, they're in 3rd and 4th instead of 2/3rd. They are a large reason why I'm thinking big bore.

Specifically what's your issue with it? Did you loose high rpms? Is it heating up? Just curious.

I'd run the GYTR before a BB. Add the PR2 ECU and money ! I just saw a BB blow up at 15 hours. Talk to any great YZ engine builder and they will tell you why not to BB. Properly built YZ will run circles around the big bore !

Mine took out a brand new KTM rod which is an expensive part, it took the piston and cylinder with it. As soon as you add cc's you are asking the stock parts to take loads they weren't designed for and what they really hate is being revved. Mine worked great while it was working but soon became a very expensive lesson in engine geometry. If you ride the pi$$$ out of a big bore it will blow up. Follow SB's advice.

My vote would be for the GYTR Head and Cams. Seems like a great deal for bolt on performance etc. Its less expensive than building up a stock head etc. There's some good online info about it as well.
Theres a few on Ebay right now!

Options options options...

Not sure what I want to do. I may not do anything. I went riding last night and my bike ran like a million bucks. Stock. I got to thinking, why mess with it?

Temps were perfect, ran great, started easy, idled perfect. Made me think maybe I should just leave it alone.

I just couldn't hit a certain jump 5th pinned like I wanted, it didn't have the grunt to pull 5th on the rev limiter... and that's why I want more power. ;-)

The 497 kit with updated cams is money

Fourth gear hill pulls. Pr2 is going on tonight and I have a gytr head on order but if those together add a similar level of performance I'm not sure theres much need for more HP without more gears.

Athena,

2 rides in and I couldn't be happier.

Keep us posted on your pr2 install as well. I've got temps under control quite well but for those times when I don't, the pr2 not over fueling it would be awesome. Plus I just wanna know overall how much better, worse, or no difference at all it makes.
