136" x 1.5 too short for Togwotee

Planning a New Years trip... Just wondering if a 136 x 1.5 is too short to get around in Togwotee? I do fine in the snowies; hardly ever have any issues with getting stuck off trail.

Thanks.

The last two Christmas week winters at Tog have been bountiful powder. That being said, those in our group with 136x1.75's did fine, provide those of us with longer tracks cut a trail in some technical areas. Those with experience did better than those with little experience or first timers. It's the rider, not necessarily the machine. :beer;

Been to tog several times and if you plan on getting off trail a whole lot you will be digging yourself out, enless the snow is really set up which at that time of year will be really unlikely. Bring a shovel and ibuprofen to cure the backache you will have following your day out

"ITS THE SAILOR NOT THE SHIP" hahaha

Looking4snow,
I have a few pics of last dec at Togwotee---Maybe you can explaine??lol

To those that say it is all rider and no machine, you have never riden tog when it was deep. I have been there when a 160+ track couldn't float enough to keep you from getting stuck, and the "just pin it" doesn't work. Unless you like chinese food, cause you will be digging to china to find your sled.

Lookin4snow layed it out the best.
It is always a ^rap shoot as to the actual snow conditions.
If they get a 3' storm roll thru, the 136 is in trouble.
You may have to follow some of the longer tracks when you have to go slow or go uphill so they can break trail for you. That being said, you will prob. be ok.
If you get out to tog and realize the 136 just isn't cutting it, you can always rent.

Thanks for the replys... I agree with "ITS THE SAILOR NOT THE SHIP". However, I have never been to Tog and all I hear is how its pretty much everyone's wetdream or if you died and went to snowmobile heaven... you'd be in Tog. :D So if we ended up there I didn't want to be in over my head.....the whole time :p

Yep it's the sailor, road there 94-2000 with a 136 on different summits, when the snows nipple rings high it goona be a fun day no matter what the lenght

Did you really need to throw the nipple ring pictoral at us...

That first picture that Firecatguy posted was my buddy on a 136 (Renegade) last X-mas. He struggled bad because we had 3+ feet of fresh stuff with no base or bottom. It was an absolute riot. We spent a lot of time digging, but that's half the adventure, isn't it? The bunje was very popular. We rode Christmas at Tog the last 4 years, and he said no more until he buys my Summit. February/March is more friendly to shorter tracks at Tog since there is base. You will also see more of the scenery as it doesn't snow all the time then either.

A - depends who you are riding with. If they all have the latest & greatest, then you'll be brining up the rear in the deep stuff.

B - depends how much fresh snow they get. Last season in the Snowies we could barely make it around to the warming hut the first day, super deep. Next day it had settled a lot and people were going everywhere.

Miles of groomed trailes too. They groom every night to keep things smooth and nice for the out of towners. :rolleyes:

Good point, and I'm pretty sure that there were some pretty ballsy guys that rode Tog way before long tracks.;):beer;:beer;

Agreed. Tog has days even the big cats are screwed. And if you can ride the snowies without getting stuck I have a feeling you aren't riding the good stuff. Seen some great riders bury huge sleds down there. The china comment made me poop myself I was laughing so hard b/c I've been there done that way too many time riding with guys that have 163 or 172 tracks that decide they wanted to get stuck. F me when the big boys get stuck they do it well

Sled

I agree with most of what is being said on this little forum. I think that you might have some problem if a bunch of 136's drop into a bowl you might have fun getting out. I rode a 133 ultra RMK for years and there were time I had to be going 50 down one hill just so I could hope to get up another. Like it was said before bring some pain meds and be sure you are out of the tricky spots by early afternoon.
